Jerry Cantrell has recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the band coming to the studio to work in the follow up to 2009´s black gives way to blue. I know that record wasn´t well received here...so what do you feel about the new one? Anyone here wants more will duvall songs?

you know what, i hated the idea of AiC without Layne, but after a couple spins, that album was solid enough
the old stuff is way better, but still, there are seattle bands from the same era with the original vocalist that are releasing terrible albums...so i'll take a a new lp by The New Alice Chains

I thought that Black Gives Way to Blue was pretty solid. I think alotta people just have an issue with it being called AiC and dismiss without givin it much of a chance. There's even a certain quality to the vocals that I always attributed to Layne that was present on BGWtB. Always knew Cantrell did tons of singing before but realized he's a much bigger part of it than some people wanna give him credit for.

I know a lot of people had an issue with them still calling themselves AIC, but I didn't mind at all. Black gives way to blue is a really good album and I'm glad to hear they're working on new material. I personally love Duvall, I saw AIC a few years ago and he blew me away. I can't wait to see them again.

i had no trouble with them replacing Layne and still calling themselves AIC, but I really didn't like Black gives way to blue. There was no heart to that album.

Initially I had a big problem with continuing the AIC name but that record wasnt bad. it also wasn't great either. I've said it before but I really just wish Jerry would continue his solo work and leave AIC alone.

i liked bgwtb a lot...having said that, i want more music in the next album. More acoustic songs, more duvall, and more cantrell´s solos... the band have a lot of room to grow and i hope they realize that insted of going for more heavy songs.

i loved his first album and i think his second one has some interesting elements too, but if jerry wants to do another solo record, let it be an acoustic one..im glad he is writing for alice in chains now.

Seems the new albums is finished. From Guitar World:
In 2013 Alice in Chains will release their as-yet-untitled fifth studio album. Although the band has been around for some 25 years, this marks only their second album without longtime vocalist Layne Staley, lending a still-new feel to the follow-up to Black Gives Way to Blue.
“It’s like having to deal with the sophomore jinx for the second time in our career,” Cantrell told Richard Bienstock in the latest issue of Guitar World.
Joined by bassist Mike Inez, drummer Sean Kinney and vocalist/guitarist William DuVall, Cantrell recently wrapped up the recording sessions for the album with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones) and engineer Paul Figueroa.
"In my opinion, that record stood up to anything else we’ve put out in our career," Cantrell says. "And this new one is right up there as well."

First single coming sooner than expected:
Alice In Chains will release “Hollow,” off of their currently untitled fifth studio album, on December 18th. The band recently finished recording the album, set for release in early 2013

Hopefully they let Duvall actually do something this time around. I was okay with BGWTB (Acid Bubble ) but it sounded like a Cantrell solo record more than anything....

sounds like more sludge. Cantrell should stay away from these songs. They were never where AIC were at their best to begin with, and layne gave those songs their soul

I like sludgy AIC just fine, as that was always a weapon in their arsenal. And I heard that tiny snippet once, and that shit's already stuck in my head. Looking forward to this, big-time.

Looking forward to the new single.
I think they had to be slow with how they introduced him into the band's dynamic. Replacing Layne is no small task. To just throw him out at the front of the band would've been a mistake, I think, and Cantrell's vocals have always been a significant aspect of their sound to being with.

im feeling kinda like stip in this one...Sludge is a really big part of AIC´s music and we need it, but somewhat this feels like another Jerry solo song. Not that is bad, and BGWTB had tons of moments like this, but i think they need to go for a different route on this record.
