Great gig last night. Tiny room, awesome sound. They fucked up Lift and lost their place, the crowd caught it and everyone was laughing, although Shawn was pretty upset about it. Stone was playing this incredible Gibson Les Paul in a Honeyburst finish with a Bigsby tremelo attached. Very cool.

I recall seeing photos of him playing that Les Paul at PJ20 - gorgeous guitar.

Glad it was a good show.

This band has not been the same since Toback left. Sure, there are some good songs on Discovery Park and Best Friends (Drop it Down, Sheepish, Bless Me Father and Holiday are some of my all time favorite Brad songs), but United We Stand is the very definition of lifeless mediocrity. There used to be a creative spark to this band, and now all the songs feel half-baked and lacking any true substance or adventure.

I haven't heard it yet. I'm still trying to finish Discovery Park, which so far is pretty cool. They were great on this last tour. I'll eventually find a copy of Best Friends and United We Stand, but right now there's nothing I'd rather listen to than mellow Brad to ease into the summer. And the rock songs are kinda cool too.

I definitely prefer Interiors to anything else they've done and I think Toback was a big part of that.

Same here, although Shame's really got its moments, but Secret Girl, Lift, and Sweet Al George are my favorite things Stone's written outside of Pearl Jam. Some really cool rock songs there.

Having seen Brad in 1998 in Adelaide and 2002 in Washington DC, I can safely say that the Shawn solo show in York in 2008 was far superior. If you can get Shawn down to SA solo, you'd be REALLY in for a treat mate. Brad tend to do a lot of instrument swapping between songs, long pauses between tunes, they're usually not very tight...the gigs can be a bit messy and lack cohesion and momentum at times.

Shawn on his own, though...wow...just give the guy a piano and let him sing!

So I've only recently gotten into Brad (only owning Discovery Park). Tell me, is that album a good representation of the band's sound? I like it a lot.

I struggled to get into Brad. I liked the singles on Interiors just fine, but the rest of the catalogue left me a bit 'meh'.

I think this is still an excellent band, looking forward to see these guys live. Ever since Keith Lowe joined the band they sound really tight.

'United We Stand' is not the best record, allthough 'Waters Deep' is such a killer song!

I would rank them as follow:

Shame > Interiors/Best Friends? >>> Welcome to DP/United We Stand!

Quote:
Brad European Tour:

February 8th 2013 MANCHESTER - ENGLAND
February 9th 2013 BIRMINGHAM - ENGLAND
February 10th 2013 LONDON - ENGLAND
February 12th 2013 PARIS - FRANCE
February 13th 2013 ANTWERP - BELGIUM
February 14th 2013 ZOETERMEER - NETHERLANDS
February 15th 2013 UTRECHT - NETHERLANDS
February 16th 2013 HENGELO - NETHERLANDS
February 18th 2013 HAMBURG - GERMANY
February 19th 2013 BERLIN - GERMANY
February 21st 2013 MUNICH - GERMANY
February 23rd 2013 MILAN - ITALY
February 24th 2013 FLORENCE - ITALY

So vinylguy, would you say that when a seasoned Brad fan pops in Welcome to Discovery Park for the first time, and the first few lines of "Brothers and Sisters" are sung, the first impression one gets is an instant recognition of the "Brad sound?"
