I've tried sampling some of this guy's previous stuff, none of it stuck to me, the quirkier aspects were a slight turnoff. In the interest of respecting the threadmaker, though, I gave Sifters a shot. It was quite a nice song, very pretty and well done. I'm parsing through the rest of the album now, the 1st track is very cool too. I guess this guy deserves more of a shot.

This is the only reason I know him, besides the fact that he is always playing in my town Providence RI. He did some nice violin work on Kristin Hersh's album The Grotto back in '03:

I've only heard "The Mysterious Production of Eggs." I liked it okay, but thought it kind of meandered through a lot of pomp without ever really stumbling upon much of a tune. Bird's disaffected, rangeless voice didn't help much, either.

How does his post-"Eggs" material compare?

"Noble Beast" is REALLY good. I thought "Armchair" started great, then meandered big time.

Good album. Can't wait to see him and Laura Marling next month.

The second half is soooo much better than the first. In fact, it might be the best half of his career.
