It's been a long time. We shouldn't have left you...
After the touring for OLTA came to an end, we all dispersed to tend to our individual personal lives. ...And to get our ducks in a row.
Now the band has reconvened, and we are rehearsing new songs.
We find ourselves marveling at the tremendous focus that has defined our early rehearsals for this, our 4th effort.
All kidding aside, we feel like a new band.
Once again, we have no concept to this batch of song-writing. (We are often asked about our intentions when we set out to write music.) There is rarely any intention to this process. We just make the music.
And without going into too much detail, the songs sound vital.
It's as though we've hit upon a balance between our urgency and our calm. And true to our better work, this is music that unravels over time.
We anticipate that, once it's done, you high-minded folks will welcome the music... into your bedrooms...to swagger and breathe...
It's still early, yet, though. We will keep you posted.
In the meantime, a couple of us have kept ourselves busy with extra-curricular activities. Carlos has made a film called My Friends Told Me About You http://www.myfriendstoldmeaboutyou.com and Sam has released a record with his band Magnetic Morning http://www.magneticmorning.com
And we hope that you're all weathering well the turmoil of the age.
I loved interpol and I'm going to see Julian plenti at the best venue in NY: Brooklyn Bowl (also booked gaslight anthem! just bring in the national and they'll have all my fav contemporary bands). I just got home from seeing bob Weir there tonight.
Julian plenti is def better than our love to admire
only if you run and games for days (SICK VIDEO) are amazing.
Interpol had been dead to me for a while, but this julian plenti solo project has renergized me.

There seems to be a lot of hate for OLTA here,am i really that out of touch? i thought it was a decent effort? some very strong songs on there. And it was always gonna be hard to top antics. My only gripe with it was it wasnt as atmospheric....
And i do think it was a good departure from antics. And the julian plenty album is good but its no interpol. Nowhere near... what are you guys looking for in an interpol release from this exactly?

well, my opnion:
Turn On The Bright Light was a masterpiece, one of my fav albums ever, definitely on my top 15. Everything about it is flawless, music, atmosphere, the feeling. Many people complain about their lyrics, but it isnt a prob to me.
Antics was also really good, not as good as the debut, but still top notch. I missed the TOTBL atmosphere, but still, it was a well done rock record.
i like Our Love To Admire, but its not anywhere near their previous 2. Rest My Chemestry is the highlight. I have a thing for The Lighthouse also.
the Julian plenti album just feels like Paul Banks doing something interesting again. who would expect a song like Skyscraper or H. after Antics and Our Love To Admire?
oh, their older songs like Specialist, Precipate, 5 and A Time To Be So Small (old version) are great also

Im with you on the TOTBL stuff,by far the most superior in sound and content! ive never really questioned the lyrics. They always seemed quite abstract loves songs in way?! A Time To Be SO Small is a classic for me! But i also loved Not Even Jail and No I In Threesome,Brilliant songs for me! Slow Hands is my all time fave by them..
I do think though that this next record should be a good one and quite a departure from OLTA. It seems bands do this a lot, male a good album or one that gets them in the spotlight and then almost try and recreate it in a way. Id say they will be experimenting a lot more with the 4th record. The Julian Plenti stuff does bode well but its an album i wont be playing all too often i think?

New Interpol Album Coming Next Year
It "falls back towards the first," says drummer Sam Fogarino
Interpol haven't released a new album since 2007's middling Our Love to Admire. Since then, the members of the band have been pretty busy with extracurricular activities: singer Paul Banks' solo project Julian Plenti, bassist Carlos D's short film, drummer Sam Fogarino's band with Swervedriver's Adam Franklin, Magnetic Morning.
Now, Fogarino tells Paste that the snappily dressed NYC brooders spent spring 2009 recording a new album, which is due for release via Capitol early next year. According to Fogarino, the new LP will recall Interpol's debut album Turn on the Bright Lights, Pitchfork's #20 album of the decade.
The band recorded the album at New York's Electric Lady studio, and they've focused on returning to the stuff that people loved about the band in the first place. Fogarino says, "The new record falls back towards the first. In trying to move forward, there was an unspoken realization that you can't let go of your sonic-defining tag. There was an effort in Daniel [Kessler]'s guitar tone; he rediscovered it playing in his loft space for a year without anybody. The quality of that tone, played in a big room, is just beautiful. It creates an atmosphere ... That big wash of reverb? It's back."
Fogarino also tells Paste that the band doesn't have any illusions about the relative wackness of Our Love to Admire: "[The album] was not our most cohesive moment … It was when reality kicked in as to where we were and where we were never going back to." Perspective!
