My favorite band when I started listening to punk rock many years ago. The Birkenstock thread made me revisit some of my old favorites.
Even though they're firmly entrenched within the 90's "skate-punk" genre, they have some incredible songs. Say what you will about their musical abilities, but Mike wrote some fantastic melodies.
Probably their best-known song
An awesome video someone put together for what's probably my favorite NOFX song
And what Mike says here I think pretty much defines what the band is all about
Do you hate these guys? Or were they your favorite in the eighth grade? Or are they your favorite NOW?

One of the best, most insane punk shows I ever experienced was NOFX/Rancid around the time their split EP came out. Rancid opened the show and was on it, but NOFX blew them away. Great live act. Funny too.

I much prefer Prunk And Drublic and anything PRIOR. I used to LOVE this band. I either grew up, grew old, or just flat out got bored with them. They are f@cking legends though and deserve to be held up to high regards.
Once they made Heavy Petting Zoo and made the sequel to Liza And Louise they started to spoil for me.... Just as it was uncool for Unforgiven II for Metallica, they should have just left the tale and legacy alone.
I rarely break out their CDs anymore which is a shame.... mostly i think is b/c of the childness of it all. I still listen to Bad Religion quite frequently, their material for me has stood the test of time becuase their music is not as "silly" or filled with bathroom humor.
Bad Religion IMO definitely deserves to have a big-ass thread here.... Maybe when I get some free time I will search for a thread on them or create a big as thread here.

I remember back in the day having a 90s punk kick: lag wagon, no use for a name, good riddance, nofx, bad religion of course...damn there were more i just can't remember the names.

So basically you changed, not NOFX. Let's not blame NOFX here .
Yes, and I think i was pretty clear about that.... and pretty clear that I was not placing blame on NOFX.... no?
Though they certainly did change too, I think their entire sound changed right around Punk In Drublic era... But most of it taking place post-PID. I think their guitar sounds are pretty horrid these days. I can not stand the uber-Mesa/Boogie-plexi amp sound.... Their earlier albums had a much more brash, in your face, and cutting sound than they do now.... Just not my ball of wax. Similiarly I can not stand what Billy Corgan did to his sound after Simese Dreams, everyone got wrapped up in that Mesa sound in that era.
As a discalaimmer I did like quite a few songs on that tri-colored album (pink yellow and brown?) though.

Also, you can never have enough songs about lesbians.
While I might agree (again in a childish sense).... There is a stark comparison between the two in that the second one sucks.

As a proud Boogie owner, i'm gonna have to call blasphemy. I like the way NOFX sounds now.

So Long and Thanks For All The Shoes...yeah that's a great album. If you like that one you might enjoy the newest record (Wolves in Wolves Clothing, not Coaster, i haven't heard that yet)...there are a lot of earnest, personal songs in lieu of the potty humour from the previous couple...and heaps of sociopolitical content, done in a way that only NOFX can do.

I can't argue there. It might alarm you to know that they actually wrote a third song in that series. Louise on the Pump up the Valium album. It's also pretty bad.
I'm not saying they're infallable. They've got their share of shitty songs but they've been one of the most consistently good bands going. They continue to put out great records to this day and i've never been disappointed. They're one of the few bands of whom I would buy a new record without having listened to it first.

Yeah, I never owned anything from any of those bands but I had a doc marten's sampler, a compilation called "fat music for fat people" and some other kind of sampler that had many of those bands on it. i can't believe I used to listen to crap like this:
Great live band. They're one of those 90s punk bands that I liked two albums from back then and have never bothered to really explore any further, as opposed to a Bad Religion who I'm still obsessed with. But when NOFX comes around they are definitely a must see.

If you like Bad Religion check out Jimx6 cover in the other bands contest(at the top of the other bands main page)....download and vote....he is going up against Raziel's Mark Lanegan cover.

So after many years of false starts (tried to see them in the States but broke up with my gf and got too depressed to go, then tried to see them in Colombia but their concert was cancelled, then tried to see them in Argentina but got sick) I'm finally seeing these guys tomorrow. I'm not as huge a fan as I was in high school, but it'll feel good to sing along to my old favorites with the always-great Argentine crowds.

Saw them in 2002. I thought they were the mutt's nuts at the time. Pretty good show with some funny banter. At one point Fat Mike asked the crowd "who here can play bass...and our songs?" He was met by a sea of hands and decided that making his laziness public probably wasn't the greatest joke to throw out so early in the set. Shrugs. Fav. songs?
