Have we discussed this before? Anyone care to guess, based on the above, which albums from 1994 onwards might have made it onto this list?

I think he might have liked Queens Of The Stone Age......maybe Wilco. I always thought if he had lived he would have gone towards a alt country vibe for a record or two.

Cool to see Leadbelly on there.

And, fuck, that placeholder Public Enemy record really does make every list.

I respect the music he made, but since he chose to kill himself, I really just don't care about him anymore. Seeing his name in print, references in popular culture, in other people's lyrics. Meh.

I don't hold my musicians and bands up to my moral code. Some of them are great people and some do disgusting, selfish deplorable things. Some are very philantropic, generous, down to Earth. Some are egotistical, abusive, and the like.

I listen to the music and mostly have it decompartmentalized from who the people were/are. I know what he did. I can feel empathy for those truly close to him but the reason I don't listen to Nirvana much anymore is because I've moved on from the music, not the band.

Anyway, I found the list interesting.

I have no idea how much more music Cobain would have made. But I would have loved to hear him mine some more of these influences.

Fascinating list.

I don't think suicide is "disgusting" or "deplorable", even if it's selfish.

A good friend of mine always used to end up theorizing about this same scenario when we'd ever talk about Nirvana's music. I don't completely disagree with that, but I'm wondering what in Cobain's music and public/private statements lend credence to such a claim? The fact that he had tentative plans to record with Michael Stipe?

I didn't say it was...beating your wife, a la John Lennon, is both disgusting and deplorable. I was speaking broadly, to encompass more than just Cobain.

But GOD he made great music. And some really passionate, empathetic music.

No one is just one thing, ya know?

I'm with you. Separate the art from the artist. How else does anyone like anything?

Fair enoughski.

For all that I don't blame Cobain for killing himself, I do think that he has been deified because of it. He might have had the mystique of the archetypal grunge musician, but I'm not sure he was the best one.

Wow, Green his favorite REM, huh? I would've figured Life's Rich Pageant or Murmur.

I'm seeing stuff up to '92, so this is from '93 or '94?

Cool that PJ Harvey made it on there.

Decent list by a very talented songwriter and musician.

It must be exhausting trying to sort music into that made by good people and that made by bad people.
