Report: DAVID LEE ROTH Sinks To New Low - Apr. 4, 2006
Paul Heine of the Billboard Radio Monitor has issued the following report:
The train wreck known as Roth Radio sank to a new low Tuesday (April 4) when David Lee Roth, in an act of defiance, resorted to reading the comics on the air.
Reeling from an apparent management directive to read and comment on the news, the embattled talk show host wannabee was audibly taken off his mark by a listener phone call. "Your show is garbage, bring back J.V. & Elvis," the caller said, referring to the WFNY (Free FM) New York midday team who subbed two days last week for Roth after he went AWOL during what was supposed to be a week’s worth of broadcasts from Miami’s tony South Beach.
Admitting his show sucked, Roth blamed local and corporate management, accusing them of neutering his program by firing much of his on-air support team, taking away his cherished music beds and restricting the topics he can talk about.

I haven't listened to a second of his show, but I'll side with Roth. This is the same management that tried to butcher Stern's show. Stern had predicted this crap before Roth even hit the air.

His show is terrible. I've listened a few times when I've been in Boston. But, you have to give the show a minimum of six months to find it's identity. I agree with Roth and I'm sure the day he gets fired will be the day Stern hires him to do a show on Sirius.
roth seriously sucks. i listened to about an hour total of his program in the first week of broadcast, and right off the bat he seemed to be running out of material.
he just really makes no sense. he is talking english (that is when he is not showing off his spanish) but i didn't know what he was talking about 1/2 the time.
granted, my listening was limited...it was just too painfully awful.

No surprise: David Lee Roth's run as morning radio host is about done. Big surprise: It appears raunchy satellite radio stars Opie and Anthony will replace him on seven CBS Radio stations.
A deal was in the works to dump the ex-Van Halen singer's ratings-deprived program with shock jocks Greg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia, according to two people with knowledge of the deal. They spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity pending an official announcement of the agreement next week.
Opie and Anthony were banished from terrestrial radio in 2002 oddly enough by their new boss, CBS Radio after airing a live account of listeners having sex in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral. CBS Radio was then known as Infinity Broadcasting.
Opie and Anthony resurfaced on XM in October 2004. The satellite radio provider has more than 6.5 million subscribers, with the Opie and Anthony show one of the most popular programs on its 170 channels.
XM will now syndicate the program to the stations in New York and six other markets, with three hours of the program airing on the CBS Radio stations, the people familiar with the deal said. XM will simultaneously broadcast that portion of the show, along with another two hours of exclusive O&A, they said.
A spokeswoman at CBS Radio declined to comment on the report, as did a spokesman for XM.
Roth's radio career began in January, when he replaced Howard Stern on the CBS stations. But reviews were poor and Roth fought with management over the show's format, putting the show on the skids less than four months into its run.
Roth, during one angry on-air rant, predicted the show could be yanked before May.
The move marks a shift in the dynamic between terrestrial and satellite radio. In the past, satellite raided terrestrial radio for big-name hosts such as Opie and Anthony or Stern. Now, the seven FM stations will rely on a syndicated satellite program.
In addition to the Free-FM station in New York, Opie and Anthony will reportedly air on WBCN-FM in Boston, WYSP-FM in Philadelphia, WRKZ-FM in Pittsburgh, WNCX-FM in Cleveland, WPBZ-FM in West Palm Beach, Fla., and KLLI-FM in Dallas.
Stern, who engaged in a lengthy on-air feud with Opie and Anthony, is in his first year of broadcasting for Sirius Satellite Radio. O&A will now fill in his old time slot.

This just seems bizarre on XM's part. Why would they let their marquee talent be broadcast on terrestrial radio? Why would O&A fans sign up for XM when they can listen to them for free?

2 hours of O&A's show will only be on XM. They may be trying to draw more listeners to XM with that.
What I don't get is how O&A are going to do their show on terrestrial radio. They're gonna censor themselves for 3 hours, and then go nuts for the last 2 hours on XM?
I think this reeks of desperation on the part of XM and terrestrial radio. Funny that the same company that fired O&A is hiring them back to save their company.

I thought so too, I find it odd that O&A were so offensive this company fired them, but now that they are losing money hand over fist, they have no problem bringing them back.

And for the record, I'm not saying this because I'm a Stern fan. I've liked O&A when I've heard them (which happened to be the day they sent someone to have sex in the church).

from what O&A were saying a while back FM was gonna carry an edited version of the previous days show.
I didn't hear todays show so I don't know what they were saying about it.
here is what "anthony" posted at wackbag.
You will be getting more show. You will hear the predumped CBS version from 6-9AM and a pure XM version from 9-11 or even later (to 12 NOON) if something is really rolling.
Yes, 6am to 9am will be FCC friendly. REALLY think about the show these days. Without the fucks and shits what's being talked about is well within FCC guidlines. TASTLESS SHIT IS NOT A VIOLATION! The same horrid jokes that were made on WNEW can still be made. Sex and cursing are issues.
Anything that will be too much for CBS will be done on XM between 9-11 or 12.
The up side here are the callers who can't afford satellite = more freaks and pissed off callers.
Better guests, TONS more exposure for XM and the show, and most of all sitting in Howards studio doing a show because CBS needed to put the show on to bail themselves out of a clusterfuck.
Give it a few weeks before you start getting all pissed off! REALLY listen to todays show, take out the curses and tell me how much couldn't be on Free-FM? Just relax for a while and then you can bitch if you're still pissed.
This is a great opportunity for the show, XM and CBS AND the listeners. It shakes shit up a bit and that has ALWAYS made the show better.
