Seriously.. has any musician in the world gone downhill in terms of musical talent than Jerry Cantrell? I was listening to 'Boggy Depot' the other day.. & I was just blown away by how pathetic the album is...
There's no way the Jerry Cantrell of today is the same guy who wrote the music to songs such as 'Nutshell', 'Don't Follow', 'Rooster', 'Man in the Box', etc... it's just mindblowing...
not to mention his tour with Creed, & doing shit like showing up on MTV cribs...
He really went downhill the most after Layne passed away... & that's what Layne may of been really to Jerry, his muse - it's like when John Lennon died... before John died, Paul McCartney was writing great songs, after John died... downhill - with Layne & Jerry it was the same deal, Layne just brought out something special in Jerry that died in Jerry along with Layne
"Nickelback is a young, hot band"
- Jerry Cantrell after his tour with Nickelback
Thanks Jerry....

Yea... & he wasn't being sarcastic when he said that, he was being serious
so what?
I hate to defend Nickleback, but what is the big deal with someones oppinion? He went on tour with them and might have liked what he had seen, or maybe he thought they were cool guys so he was promoting them?
What is there to loose respect for because he gave respect to a band (a very crappy one, but still)?

His second solo album is great though.
I think if AIC was still popular like Nirvana, then maybe Jerry could do a Dave Grohl success thing. He is an amazing guitarist, has a nice sweet voice and can still write great dark lyrics (like "Mother Spinning in Her Grave" and "Gone")
but after Layne died he was dropped from his record label, had to put up his house to make a new album.
I dont know.Nickelback and Creed are the worst watered down versions of the AIC sound ever.I think he even played in that cringe-enducing "Heroes" song. Then opening for the meatheads who love Nickelback and Creed. He should have opened for Pearl Jam.

Degradation Trip was bad ass. His best work since Dirt i think especially on the rocking songs. This was a very good album. I do'nt think Jerry has gone downhill. I even like songs on Boggey Depot as a whole it was not great but it had good songs. Degradation Trip was really good.
He is not a great lead singer, but he writes good lyrics and great songs.
His defense for nickleback was weak. I can only hope he was playing the politically correct card that One He was on tour with these guys and two they were on his same label so he did not want to start up any BS about them.
I thought i read elsewhere that he said they were good guys but he did not care for the music... perhaps i'm wrong though.

I think Deg trip is pretty bad. A friend of mine who is a huge AIC fan gave me the cd. After about 10 listens i couldn't handle it anymore so i gave it to another friend. He gave it to another and so on. I meet this guy who is a friend of a friend and we are talking about music and AIC comes up. He tells me that i can have his Deg Trip album if I want it. It turns out the album was passed around to about 8 people and it made it all the way back to me. I just thought that was hilarious. Not a good album.

I thought I read that somewhere too.
I absolutely looooove Jerry, and I think that Degradation Trip is a great album. And I too think that he hasn't gone downhill.

I love Degredation Trip, I'm tempted to buy the 2 disc version. I also like Boggy Depot. I think his music is strong as ever.
I don't like Nickelback music, but I like Jerrys.
I love Jerry's solo material, and when I saw him in New York he was making fun of Nickelback. I think he knows they're shitty, I'm not sure why he would ever say otherwise. And on a personal level, I think he's probably had a tough time adjusting from the busy, relatively famous life of AIC to the much lower key solo career he's had. And I will defend his MTV Cribs appearance because it was so fucking awesome to see his place compared to all the other assholes they have on the show.

I really liked Degredation Trip as well, but the two disc really isn't worth it. I got it and in my opinion, the stuff that was cut was cut for a damn good reason. It's also interesting to note that many of the songs that didn't make it sound like direct criticisms of Layne. Anyone who's heard it will know what I'm talking about.
He's definitely not as good without Layne, but I think he still has his moments.
