I love how they did it in the studio. I was there at Borgata 10/1 when Ed played it and said he wrote it that day. I remember thinking that either he said, or other people at the time said since the "new album" was so far along, Gone wouldnt make the new album and was just a cool solo ditty Ed happened to write in his hotel room.

1. Doesnt the fact that Gone made the album show that PJ wasnt so far along as we thought on the new album, since a song wirtten 10/1/05 made an album scheduled for finalizing only a few months later?

2. Why would they make Gone the Xmas single if it was going to make the album?

I think Gone making the album after being written so recently shows that it is a song PJ believed in, but also shows us just how much PJ was struggling to find album worthy songs for an album several years in the making.

i don't think they were necessarily struggling for album worthy songs, just that gone was too good not to be included.

i remember hearing jeff talk about gone right after AC. he sounded pretty impressed and he said ed wrote thinking it wouldnt be on the album, but the band was going to talk him into putting it on the new one. i really really like what they did w/ it too

I've turned into a big fan of it...there's something daughter-ish about the last couple of minutes, especially Mike's parts, and I like that more than I thought i would...

I think warehouse is right. They ended up really liking the song and fixed it up for the album. I wonder what song got bumped to make room for gone, and why that song wasn't big wave
