F ONLY WE ALL HAD A REPUBLICAN DAD

A 19 and 17 year old from Arizona, have been offered a plea deal which requires no jail time and virtually no penalty for crimes they admitted to commiting. What were these crimes?

As counselors at a boys camp, the 19 and 17 year old punished 18 of the 11-14 year old boys by making them lay face down on their bed, in front of all the other boys, shoving a broomstick into their anus through their pants. Eighteen 11-14 year olds! And, no penalty despite the parents outrage.

One may ask how this could happen. It is really quite simple. The 19 year old, Ryan Bennett, is none other than the son of Arizona's Senate President, Ken Bennett, a Republican who is part of the effort to ban equal rights for same-sex couples in the state, viewing same-sex relationships as immoral.

After his son's admission, Bennett wrote a letter to the D.A. handling the case informing her that his son could not rightfully serve time in jail, because he is prepared to leave the country on a mission - to teach the word of Christ to youth around the world.

The D.A. agreed with Senator Bennett. Though you may not - if you would like to email Senator Bennett, he can be reached at kbennett@azleg.state.az.us

If you cannot seem to think of just the right thing to say to Ken, check out this commentary by Ben Horowitz. He gives a tragically entertaining look at the stronghold the Republican Party has on the "moral indignation card."

And where in the article does it indicate that they got off because the father was Republican?

Newsflash, Ted Kennedy murdered someone, and got of because...

Yeah, because democrats would never do something like this. You guys need to come up with a better strategy than "democrats do it too" because its getting really old, really fast. I don't approve of behavior like this from any politician regardless of political affiliation.

What makes it humourous (and sickening) is how moral right-wing America paints itself out to be, what with their fag-hating and abortion protesting, but they still prove time and time again that they're just like the rest of us heathens when it comes to behavior like this. A poor uneducated black man who deals pot gets shipped off to get buttfucked in prison for a few months, and rich, family values promoting right-winger's kid who sodomizes camp boys gets off to go over to the third world and cram the word of Christ down starving people's throats. Of course, these people can do no wrong in your eyes at this point, as long as they are leading you to believe in some false Biblical view of how people should behave.

Gimme an F'n break. You don't care about what politicians do it, that's why you say they got off because their father was a Republican. You are more transparent than cellophane. If you really didn't care when politicians of any set get away with crimes, then you should have started an article titled, "I wish my dad was Ted Kennedy, because he can get away with murder."

Oh, the part that I put in bold. I laughed my ass off when I read that. Could you be any more mello-dramatic? Is that what the world boils down to for you? If you're black, a democrat, a liberal, gay, or a woman, you are doomed because of the uber repressive, hypocritical, fundamentalist, evangelical right wing who automatically has a get out of jail free card like Cynthia McKinney?

And you say my lines get old.

By the way, love the sig. So true.

I'm thinking about putting the black man comment as mine.

The ability to avoid punishment for criminal behavior is, I think, more correlative with personal wealth and/or resulting connections than with any party affiliation. It just so happens that Republicans average greater wealth (and less education...wierd combination) statistically than Democrats, and are in more of a position to take advantage of such a reality. The bigger question in this, and most other N&D threads, is: why are people such immeasurable assholes?

And please not, Little Wing, that I did NOT say Republicans are dumber. I read Ulysses for fun when I was 17, and that would remain true whether I had chosen to get a degree in literature or not. Also, I seem to recall the (far more impressively cool) Libertarian party averages greater education than Dems.

LW, I get what you're saying and I agree that we need to be equally harsh on members of both sides of the aisle, especially when it comes to such instances of blatant hypocracy. For instance, if Ted Kennedy was tough on crime, it would make his little 'accident' all the more heinous. The point that some are trying to make is that you cannot claim the absolute moral high ground and then pull off shit like this. When you oppose same sex marriages on 'moral grounds' and then allow flexiblity in cases like this... its hard to take a person seriously. If a Democrat campaigns against special interests and campaign finance abuses and then is caught paying for a hooker with lobbyist money, well then, he is equally a douche. It is painfully apparent that a large number of our representatives at the state and national levels are devoid of a moral compass and many are engaged in questionable activities. These under the table dealings are moral lapses are made even more aggregious when you base your political arguments on some elusive higher moral cause that you invoke.

THIS sentence is what makes this a republican issue, apart from the abuse of power and special privileges that exist in all politics.

No, actually I was pointing out the hypocrisy of your side which so frequently chooses to take the moral "holier-than-thou" high-ground and fails time and time again.

You're too entrapped in the only self-pride you have left to admit these mistakes or defend yourself and instead bring up Cynthia McKinney and Ted Kennedy (and I don't think anybody would disagree with you on their own guilt), just like the rest of the inept talk-show radio slobs. Its time people like you are put on the defensive for thing that you know are true. So get off your high-horse.

Well...John Kerry made his lifelong Catholicism part of his campaign...and certainly made a point of being photographed going to church.

Just watch ol' Hil start gettin' the faith the next couple years.

The vast majority of politicians(at least those at the federal level) are afraid to be perceived as secular.

As McP pointed out, I think this is more about wealth and position than party affiliation.

Right, I have no doubt that there have been Democrat politicians who have tried the same thing.

I wonder what the actual incident looked like. This article makes it seem like the poor kid was anally raped by a broomstick. I wouldn't be surprised if, in reality, what happened was no more horrible than getting rat-tailed in the locker room in front of all the 'boys after gym.

Please, I urge you to stop insinuating that I am anything like these people. Please do not insinuate that I am entrapped either, as if I am trying to defend this.

I'm not doing that.

What, do you honestly think that I'm doing this to defend these kids, or somehow try and exhonerate them? Where have I done that? These kids were f'n pricks. They sodomized other kids younger than them. You know how I fly. I am all about throwing the book at EVERYBODY.

What I'm pointing out is how asanine you really are. You are taking an article, making an assumption, on an anecdote from one family, one politician, and using that ASSUMPTION to attack me, and make all republican's and religious people just like them. Then you come out, and you say that you are against all politicians that do this, but insist on using something minor in retrospect compared to past hypocricy. Your motivations are so shamlessly clear, and there's really no need for it. It doesn't forward anything. It's rather trite to be perfectly honest with you. I thought the board had matured beyond this sort of crap, but I guess I was wrong.

It's funny, you say you shouldn't have to point out the atrocities of warfare in one thread. But you feel the need to highlight that there are hypocrits out there. No shit. There are religious people who send their daughters to the clinic. No shit. There are politicians that get their kids out of crimes. No shit. Politicians are curropt. No shit.

I am not really too against gay marraige per-say by the way. More power to two adults. I am vehemently opposed to gay adoption.

Where did I say you were like these people? Nobody should have to defend this specific type of behavior.

What you should be defending are the principles of the party of Christian zombies that you adore so much. The Republicans (and plenty of Democrats) have been on a holy campaign to promote themselves as agents of family values and God, but when it comes down to it they're human just like the rest of us. Incidents like this and constant government corruption render these principles completely inept. But why do we keep hearing it from tools like Rick Santorum, and even Bush himself? Because its a good selling point for their actual lack-of-morality, lack of ideas, lack of public policy, and lack of direction?

Of course, you still can't admit that its meaningless political boloney and if the people knew the truth about actual issues regarding illegal wars, budget deficits, poverty, the war on drugs, human rights-violations, and environmental neglect instead of showing up at the polls out of fear of gay marriage like in 2004, or the removal of their precious Ten Commandments from courthouses, then both parties would be scared to death of their voters.
