He's great; I really like his production. Also worth mentioning: Brendan O' Brien, George Martin, Glyn Johns, David Briggs, Steve Albini.

I have no interest in Jay-Z, but the "98 Bottles..." track with Rick Ruben's production is fricking Amazing!

I don't know if your humor simply went way over my head or whether you made an honest mistake, but the song is called "99 Problems."

And yeah, I'm a big fan of Alan Moulder, Steve Albini, even Steve Lillywhite.

I was thinking Brendan O'Brian, unstill I saw the picture; I can concur with Rick Ruben (he's one bad ass m-f).

Sir George Martin. If nothing else he's certainly the most successful producer.

Rubin definately wins just for how he got johnny cash out of his funk in the 90s and producing the best stuff of his career. of course, he's produced lots of classics as well like blood sugar sex magik and deloused in the comatorium

Plenty of good guys have been mentioned so far, but I would put the spotlight on the guy who produced Turn On The Bright Lights. The sound on that record is like my soulmate or something.

I definitely agree on Albini, O'Brien, Rubin and Moulder, and I would also add Nigel Godrich.

I may be wrong, but I think it was Ric Ocasek who over-polished GBV on Do The Collapse, fuckin' with their lo-fi mojo. So not him.

I loved Tchad Blake's production on Binaural.

Oh, and I'd like to throw Daniel Lanois' name on the list, just for his work on Bob Dylan's Time Out of Mind.
