Could someone tell me if it would be easier to transfer my ton of cassettes to cd's myself or have someone professionally do it for me. Or my last option trade all over agin for cd's. If I can do it myself, could you please direct me somewhere to show me how to do everything(i.e. upload,track(w/o ticks, etc). My cassettes are about 5-6 yrs old and I can't bare to lose all that music. Thanks in advance.

i always thought that you could hook up your tape deck to a amp (not sure if it's an amp or something like that, my dad has a macintosh sort of thing that he has his record player hooked up to, then that hooked up to the computer so he can make his own cds.) or something like that. it can be done.

You can have it professionally done, though this route usually costs quite a bit. The easiest way would be to do it yourself. In order to do this, you will need to have a cassette player that has a pre-amp built-in or you will have to run the cassette through a pre-amp and then into your cd-recorder/computer.

The last time I converted tapes to digital, I ran the following setup:

JVC KD-A1 (Built-In Preamp) -> Sound Blaster Audigy Line-In -> Creative WaveStudio (Editing and Sound Clean-Up) -> Xing Audiocatalyst Mp3 Encoder (192 Kbps)

I also did some vinyl conversion which required a pre-amp between the turntable and the computer to boost the signal. Some turntables have them built-in like this:

Olympus LAB-1100 (Built-In Preamp) -> Sound Blaster Audigy Line-In -> Creative WaveStudio (Editing and Sound Clean-Up) -> Xing Audiocatalyst Mp3 Encoder (192 Kbps)

I had a cartridge problem with this table so I had to switch to one with no pre-amp. Because of this, I added a stereo pre-amp in the signal for that turntable:

Technics SL-Q200 -> Optimus STA-20 (Pre-Amp) -> Sound Blaster Audigy Line-In -> Creative WaveStudio (Editing and Sound Clean-Up) -> Xing Audiocatalyst Mp3 Encoder (192 Kbps)

As for guides, I am sure there are some available if you search around, but I do not know of any off the top of my head.

if you have high-speed internet you could just download all the albums you have on cassete via bittorrent, emule, limewire, kazaa etc. (i suggest BT). Because you paid for that music on cassete you purchased private listening rights to it and if you wish to have it in digital format that is legal. Wheter you download it or rip it from CDs or transfer it from cassettes it makes no difference.
