Tom Cruise is well known for his wacky ways, but his latest mission, to eat the placenta of his unborn baby really puts the cherry on the cake.
Of his latest goal, to eat the placenta of the baby, which is due anytime now, Cruise said "I'm gonna eat the placenta. I thought that would be good. Very nutritious". He added, "I'm going to eat the cord and the placenta right there," the Mirror reported.
A strict follower of Scientology (a cult that has recently swept through the celebrity world), the 43-year-old star has already decided that his baby will be born in total silence. Reformed girlfriend and mother-of-child Katie Holmes is said to be completely at ease with the scientology way.
Cruise's curious mindset has also hit the headlines this year when he purchased an ultrasound machine so he could keep a close eye on his baby. And not satisfied with playing doctors and nurses, the superstar-heartthrob turned his hand to a bit of psychic channeling when he claimed he knew that the former Dawson's Creek star was pregnant before she told him.
Although the fast-approaching birth of baby-cruise is set to be silent as a lamb... looks like Hannibal might have some competition now! Although the placenta is said to be very nutritious, we're not convinced about this latest stunt Tom... but what can we say... Bon Appetite!
Yeah. That pretty much says it all.

Remember that animated .gif of the dog whipping back and forth in a meat grinder surrounded by vegetables with the word "WHAT" appearing all over it? Can someone edit that to incorporate Cruise's head?

Placenta Recipes (Mothering Magazine, September 1983, Vol. 28, pg 76) Each placenta weighs approximately 1/6 of the baby's weight. Cut the meat away from the membranes with a sharp knife. Discard the membranes.
Placenta Cocktail: 1/4 cup raw placenta, 8oz V-8 juice, 2 ice cubes, 1/2 cup carrot. Blend at high speed for 10 seconds
Placenta Lasagne: Use your favorite lasagne recipe and substitute this mixture for one layer of cheese. In 2 tbl. olive oil, quickly saute meat of 3/4 placenta, ground or minced plus 2 sliced cloves of garlic, 1/2 tsp. oregano, 1/2 diced onion & 2 tbl. tomato paste, or 1 whole tomato.
Placenta Spaghetti: Cut meat of 3/4 placenta into bite size pieces, then brown quickly in 1 tbl. butter plus 1 tbl. oil. Then add 1 large can tomato puree, 2 cans crushed pear tomatoes, 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 1 tbl. molasses, 1 bay leaf, 1 tbl. rosemary, 1 tsp. ea. of salt, honey, oregano, basil, and fennel. Simmer 1 1/2 hours.
Placenta Stew: Meat of 3/4 placenta in bite size chunks, 1 potato (cubed), 1/4 cup fresh parsley, 2 carrots, 3 ribs celery, 1 zucchini, 1 large tomato, 1 small onion. Dredge meat in 1 tbl. flour mixed with 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp. paprika, pinch of cloves, pinch of pepper, 6-8 crushed coriander seeds. Saute meat in 2 tbl. oil, then add vegetables (cut up) and 4-5 cups of water. Bring to full boil, then simmer for 1 hour.
Placenta Pizza: Grind placenta. Saute in 2 tbl. olive oil with 4 garlic cloves, then add 1/4 tsp fennel, 1/4 tsp. pepper, 1/4 tsp paprika, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. oregano, 1/4 tsp. thyme, and 1/4 cup of wine. Allow to stand for 30 minutes, then use with your favorite home made pizza recipe. It's a fine placenta sausage topping.
Eating the placenta is known as placentophagy. It is practiced by most mammals in the animal world, including many primates. This excludes the majority of humans.
However, there are some that proport that eating the human placenta can help with ailments from postpartum depression to postpartum hemorrhage. There are some midwives and doctors who use the placenta medicinally in the early stages of postpartum because it is high in progesterone and has small amount of oxytocin. This supposedly helps stem bleeding after birth and causes the uterus to clean itself out. Some forms of Chinese medicines also contain parts of human placenta.

I know it's not unheard of but sounds very disgusting to me.

This vegan lesbian doctor my brother went to had a baby with her life-mate, and they decided to grill the placenta and have that be the first meat they'd eaten in years.

i believe it was a special with Diane Sawyer on ABC Primetime last week... not quite Entertainment Tonight... and he actually seemed rather grounded... am i the only one who saw this?... the missus was watching it, and i have to admit i was kind of interested to get to the truth about this guy... if he was being honest with Sawyer, and it seemed he was, then people are making this guy and Miss Holmes out to be a lot that they are not... he seemed pretty normal to me for the most part... and he laughed at a lot of the accusations, including the placenta... i even remember him looking at her like "are you for real?"... i think he's a nutjob somewhat, but not nearly what the media (and RM )are making him out to be
Primetime's pretty legit, wouldnt you say?... i dont know, Sawyer definitely wasnt kissing up to him... she seemed to be asking all the right questions imo
also, she asked him about the Southpark thing, and he looked baffled
for most anybody else yes, but with tom cruise you never know what he's gonna do next

I assumed it was false based on this paragraph:
Of his latest goal, to eat the placenta of the baby, which is due anytime now, Cruise said "I'm gonna eat the placenta. I thought that would be good. Very nutritious". He added, "I'm going to eat the cord and the placenta right there," the Mirror reported.
... but it's still an infinitely interesting topic.
