Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the high-profile pair dubbed TomKat by the media, had a baby girl Tuesday, said Cruise spokesman Arnold Robinson.
The baby, named Suri, weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 20 inches long, he said.
"Both mother and daughter are doing well," Robinson said in a prepared statement.
The name Suri has its origins in Hebrew, meaning "princess," or in Persian, meaning "red rose," the statement said.
The baby was born in Los Angeles but Robinson did not disclose the exact location.
It's the first child for Holmes, 27, and the first biological offspring for Cruise, 43. Cruise has a daughter and son from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
Details surrounding the birth, which was planned under the tenets of the Church of Scientology as a silent procedure, weren't disclosed.

Wow, they've really carried this publicity stunt all the way. I used to think Cruise and Kidman didn't have natural children because he was gay. But now I'm starting to think she just didn't want to ruin her figure.

Call me crazy but Nicole does absolutely nothing for me. I find her "plastic" and "malnourished". I'm sure if her acting career fails she could flourish as a Calvin Klein model.
I think Nicole is very beautiful mainly because of her skin and her hair. I have very pale skin so she is like the hero of my group. But there is something kinda evil about her eyes.
I liked her in Mulan Rouge and the Human Stain. Oh and The Hours and The Others were pretty good. I think she's a solid actress but she could stretch herself a bit more. Bewitched and the Stepford wives were just heinous from what I've heard.
