I don’t recall reading the thread title as highest or lowest grossing movies and since when is that the barometer for a good movie or art for that matter.

You can't argue with Indy

edit: (The Indy movies are good.)

and PD, what Goldblum movies? The only one's I can think of offhand are Life Aquatic, Jurassic Park, the Lost World, and The Fly

Indiana Jones movies are exploitative and borderline racist. Not to mention the Temple of Doom was one giant steaming pile of shit.

Well, here, judge for yourself, but personally I think The Fly is the only good movie of the ones you listed and that was 20 years ago. Just look at his resume since The Fly, which was his big break as a star.

Yeah, Temple sucked. And I've never had anybody bring this up. I'll have to watch them again.

I had an anthropologist explain all of the points in these movies that we just never really think about. Like in the beginning of the Ark of the Covenant he is trying to take that idol from the indigenous people. His name is Indiana, which = white bread, "safe," middle class American, and he's outsmarting the south americans who are primitive and "can't keep up" with him, not to mention they are manipulated by the "bad" archaeologist, which implies they are easily swayed, have little to no morals and are "backwards." And he is literally stealing this idol from them. It is theirs, and since he thinks it belongs in a museum instead of in the hands of who it actually belongs to, he decides to go and just take it from them.

If you go through these movies, there are tons of things like that. I bought the whole series for that reason (but also because the first and third ones are entertaining).

so i guess star was was just as big a quagmire huh? i mean, obi easily mind controlled the stupid soldiers, showing that stupid people can easily be swayed. young people can not handle the truth and it is ok to lie to them, since noone told luke about his sister or who his father is. that terrorism is ok if you believe your enemy deserves it, since the rebels openly attacked a governing body.

the indy series is set in a time period, no more no less, and are very entertaining

and there is no way you can say ahnuld, who ever did, his movies are classics

For a truly funny man, Will Ferrell can pick some absolute stinkers.

I'd actually argue the exact opposite. Given their limited acting abilities (if you could even call it that), I don't think either of them could have done a better job at choosing their movies.

Under Siege, Kick Boxer, Blood Sport etc. Atrocious acting, but totally entertaining.
