Robert DeNiro has two roles, tough guy or nerdy guy.

I love The Shining but...

I remember reading a review that states that, in The Shining, Jack is already crazy before the story warrants it. It's funny but it's true.

:? Lately, or in general? Because if you mean in general, you're nuts.

With the exception of Taxi Driver (nerdy guy trying to be tough guy) name me a role that doesn't fall into one of those categories.

Bogart fits this description.

His roles in The Deer Hunter, The Mission, Godfather 2, A Bronx Tale, Mad Dog and Glory, Midnight Run, Angel Heart, Awakenings, and True Confessions.

EDIT" Not to mention that it is flat out ridiculous to reduce characters like Rupert Pupkin and Jake La Motta to "nerds" and "tough guys".

His role in A Bronx Tale is the pick of that litter. Point awarded.

Awakenings?

Jacknife?

Night and the City?

The Deer Hunter?

New York, New York?

Frankenstein?

A Bronx Tale?

Flawless?

I could go on, but I think that's enough for now.
