I saw a tv commercial for the album this morning, the Life Wasted video is on the front page of amazon.com, heard Worldwide Suicide twice on the radio today, and I wasn't even hunting around for anything Pearl Jam related. Kind of weird considering the majority of the general public didn't even seem to realize Pearl Jam was still around and kicking with the last two albums. It is amazing what a little promotion can do.

I seriously think Epic/Sony was not promoting the band after Yield. Its amazing what a new record label (albeit under the same corporate umbrella) can do if it wants to publicize a band. good for PJ for ending the Epic relationship.

I've stopped eating guacamole because I don't want to support the fruit that is aiding the sellout

I'm not eating guacamole until May 2nd. Out of respect for the band's wishes.

you need to eat it more so you can stop eating it in protest.

In this day and age, it's necessary, I'm waiting to see what effect it has. For us fans, who monitor every single movement of the band on an hourly basis, it seems alot, but I personally don't htink it really is. Consider the average Joe, who doesn't go around looking for the band, but may consider buying if he/she realizes it's out. The band missed alot of people the last couple of outings, I think they now realize what they have to do to let people know somehthing is out. They aren't quite the hype-filled act they once were, so maybe even htis promotion could wear off. They need to be on a cover, I htink, of Rolling Stone or Blender, and then the promotion will be complete. That, and maybe another single that catches on and sticks, can take this to the platinum or multi-platinum they seem to be ogign for on this outing.

I hope they promote the hell out of this album. I would love to see it hit a million.

If it only hits a million I'll be dissappointed. If Green Day can sell over 4 million of American Idiot I see know reason why this shouldn't go multi-platinum.

so.... someone in a different thread mentioned that there was more promotion for Yield than Pearl Jam... i was a senior in college, and while i loved Pearl Jam as much then as now, i wasnt really at home watching TV much or paying attention to the advertising machine, so i didnt notice much promotion at all... i do remember a Best Buy commercial though... anyway, this seems like the thread for this debate?... if there even is one... wondering what you guys with better memories than mine can add?

They should have a Pearl Jam Value Meal at McDonalds where you get a cheeseburger, fries, small coke and a suction cupped minature of one of the band members.

I was a soph. in college when Yield came out. I remember tracks leaking out on the internet and thinking how cool that was, bc i only saw that that happen to u2 with pop. As far as promotion, they did newspaper interviews unlike RA and Bin. There were commercials with a long road like the album cover playing GTF. There was going to be a Best Buy live album and that was shelved. The commercials aired for about a week. Thats the only promotion I noticed. I remember Robert Plant gettig a little angry that Ed lifted the melody of Going to Cal. on GTF, but that went away.
