I was reading about Alice in Chain's comeback and club tour. it just struck me how kind of pathetic it is for Cantrell to try to use the AIC name without Staley, I mean, while Jerry wrote the music and is no doubt the creative force, it was Layne's voice that made the band what it was. Kind of cheesy to me to use an unknown lead singer, like INXS is doing to recapture the magic of a band with a dead lead singer.
Its pretty remarkable that PJ is still going at it 15 years after the grunge era started. The streets are litterred with bands that didnt make it and I include Nirvana in that category. They stood the test of time and thankfully this band survived. Obviously there is something inherantly special about Eddie and the boys that made them stay together and continue to do this thing for so long. 16 years is a long ass time.
i feel lucky honestly, cause im only seventeen and didn't become a huge fan until about a year ago, i feel like i have missed so much, and reading about fans that have been around for 5...10...15 years being nostalgic and remembering everything makes me even more gratefull that i was able to see them last summer at the gorge and this coming summer. I think its a testament to ANY band that can stay together touring and recording for over ten years. And im not talking about reunion tours or comeback albums, but a pretty constant flow of touring/studio releases.

It seems to be so rare for a band to exist as long as pearl jam have and that is something to be proud of.. yes they survived (i think that´s the right term to use here) and i hope they will continue surviving in this day and age. They have shown that they have backbone and they´ve made it all about the music in the end.. And they will be here for a long time to come.
But i don´t think it´s pathetic for the remainig trio of AIC to go touring. It´s a way to honor Layne´s work and letting it live and find new places to nest.. (new fans). And it is a blessing for fans like me to see them live ´cos we never got the chance to.
No it is definitely not the same without the beautiful voice and presence of Layne Staley, but i don´t think Jerry is capitalizing on him or anything.
Jerry is a huge part of AIC and together with Layne they were amazing. It wouldn´t have been one without the other, so Jerry can in my opinion tour the world over with his head up high and give to the fans what they have been waiting for all this time..
I bet they are itching to go touring and play those amazing tunes all over again. And it couldn´t have been easy for anyone to lose Layne, so i think the whole touring thing is a very healthy way to deal with it. And then they can start over in a different kind of setting.

Excellent observation
yeah it just points out that U2 has really put out some shit over the years, same with Aerosmith who I really don't like much anyway, point being I think PJ is definitely one of the most if not the most consistent act ever.
