So i just watched the film "Pink Floyd the Wall"

What the hell did i just see? I had listened to the full album probably just once before I saw the movie. So many questions arise, but what does 'the wall' symbolize as a whole? I didn't understand half the symbolsn in the film. At first I thought the "...another brick in the wall" described his father's death, and how, now, all his life is stands as the plaque on the wall it showed. Then I thought maybe it was describing the conformity the school system places on children. Then, finally, at the end, was it all just feelings and things holding the guy back from society?

Also, what is the deal with the nazi stuff? definitely don't get where that came from.

I think the wall is sort of society or all of the things that hold you back in life.

The basic story behind the writing of the Wall is that Roger Waters found himself spitting on a fan one day, and wondered how he had come to this state. He envisioned a wall being built between himself and the rest of the world, and incorporated his childhood memories (his dad dying in WWII, oppressive school, doting Mother, etc) into the album. The movie takes a different turn, incorporating some of Syd's characteristics in the storyline.

damn, nailed it. I'm watching the behind the scenes now. Pretty interesting stuff, definitely not floyd's best music though. I still don't understand some of the imagery in the animated sequences however. All the hammers...?

You have to be really stoned for it to make sense.

I was only kidding. I have never watched it. My stoner friend, on the other hand, watches all the time. Hence the pot reference. I am sure that it is good.

I don't disagree with getting stoned, just the idea that it's required to understand the wall.

the way in which they translated this concept into a live setting was FUCKING INCREDIBLE.

Yeah, there is an unreleased pro-shot DVD floating around, and it's really impressive. They really should master it an release it, though.

Yeah, it's pretty good given the age of the tapes.

To me the concept and actual meaning is more interesting than the album or the movie itself, but both are alright. The movie has some good animations, you have to love the marching hammers.

It really was...Alan Parker did an amazing job. One of the best musicals of all time.

i think the movie could have been a lot better, but it did help me get a better understanding of the story to the album so for that i'll always be appreciative

I had a class in high school (western civilization) that assigned the wall

To this day it's the best class I ever took, and it's what inspired me to become a teacher
