Me and Pamplemousse are down with Ghostface.
Nice. He's my favorite MC of all time. I don't know what I can say more about him that I haven't already said in Nate's Wu-Tang thread or Niko's hip-hop thread, but I'll say a few words. Thanks, Matt, Ghost deserves his own thread.
Lyrically, he's very thoughtful, but he allows himself to laugh or cry or wonder or just break down through his delivery, so the emotion is always behind the thought.
I think he has every aspect of an MC that a rapper can possess, and each piece is absolutely stunning on him. His lyrics are intelligent and he's very outspoken with his beliefs, loves and hates. His delivery is one of the most emotional you'll hear from any musician, not only in rap music.
"Stop at the cheeba spot, then pass the leak spot
So past y'all n****z again, you took a cheap shot
Not knowin fuckin' with me, you get your meat chopped
You thought we fell on our face? You need to be stopped
Call on the chariots! Call on an ambulance!
You better smile, my n*****, you on candid cam..."
When I hear him pronounce the emotion in these or any of his words, I am absolutely overwhelmed by what he's feeling. There are a handful of musicians that I can say have performed with such intensity that they've delivered their emotions to me. Ghostface is one of the very few who really gets inside my soul and exclaims or despairs over my newly discovered feeling. It's amazing!
He has a great voice as well, not because it's technically the appealing voice, but because he takes it wherever his emotions go. He really does let himself go sometimes, just as in the above lyrics, and it's brilliant to hear a man so engrossed in his own humanity, all of the thoughts and emotions and experiences that go into his own self, that he just lets go and loses it.
Obviously, we get to hear how complex a man he really is, because he doesn't associate anywhere any better than he does through music. There's so much to him, and he displays his very developed humanity through his style of flowing, through his voice and where he takes it, through his lyrics and how he chooses to express them, and through the way he connects his words to the music and puts it all together so that there are some people who find the music just as therapeutic or enlightening or wonderful when they listen to it as he did when he was making it.
He's a great soul, and he never fails to amaze me. The Pretty Toney Album is one of my last great hopes for music.

Introducing the Ghost...Face...Killah!! No one could get illah!!
Ghost is my third favorite from Wu and he has the second best catalogue. Do not sleep on his post Supreme Clientele work. If you're a hip-hop fan, pick these up now:
Fishscale is definitely the best rap album fo the year thus far. That track with the whole Wu on it....

I think Ghost has successfully established himself as one of the premier MCs of the new millennium. Back in the day, I never thought I would like Ghost more than Method Man, but now Ghost is better than he ever was.
