Does anybody here have any more information on the song "Open Road"? It's a song they played at a single show, but never released. Rumor Pit confirmed that it was in fact a Pearl Jam song. Here are the lyrics I found somewhere, they sound about right:

smokin the television
to get on it already
this bus is makin way too many stops
i can't get a-movin'
where's my destination?
i take a deep swallow in my frustration
i'm takin all i got
it fits in this little bag
all my life i had empty pockets
all my life i saw evil eyes in old dark sockets
i cut em off, i cut em off...
i said i don't need them to make life work
i cut em off, i cut em off...
i'll never think twice
into them i never ever talk...
so here i go
i'm finally on my way
once i said goodbye
that was my last wave, whoa
here i am on the...
on the open road
i've never felt better
then when i am alone

I used to have this song as an MP3 but I lost it. It's actually really good, sounds like something that easily could have (and probably should have) made Vitalogy. Would it be a bannable offense if I were to ask someone if they had a copy?

I'm not sure. I don't think it was ever recorded but it was y'know.. a full-length like 2:50-3:00 or so song. It didn't seem to add on to or bleed into any other song independent of itself.

Like Falling Down, it sounds more like a constructed song rather than just and improv, but we can't be certain. The fact is that all we know is it was played once. I may have the mp3 somewhere, ask one of the other board members because it was on TSIS for ages until about a year ago whena ll the mp3s were taken down.

my version is about 05:40...

It has an improv feel to it, kinda like out of my mind...

so did 10c confirm that this was not an improv?

From TSIS FAQ:

4.19 I've heard this song "Open Road", was it ever released? What's its deal?
Open Road is the name given to an improv/jam that PJ did at Phoenix, AZ 09/13/95. It sounds like a full song and the rumor pit confirmed it to be a PJ song, not a cover or anything. It's never been commercially released.

I always wondered if this was considered an actual song or an improv. I personally consider Falling Down to be a real song. But anyway...I have an mp3 file of this song at 128 kbps. PM me if you want it.

Falling Down to me sounds a lot more rehearsed, with the band anticipating when to come in after the intro and the change when it comes to the chorus. Open Road is pretty much the same drum beat throughout, it just gets a little harder at the end.

Go to http://www.theskyiscrape.com and look under the setlist archive for the Red Rocks show from 6/20/95. They have an mp3.

I have a pretty decent quality bootleg of this show. I think I paid about $30 for it back in '98 or '99.

Anyway, that song Open Road is pretty cool. PM me and I'll see what I can do when I get off work today. It's actually been a year or so since I last listened to it. I'm glad someone started talking about it.

Oh, and one more thing about that Phoenix show - it has one of my absolute, all-time favorite versions of Alive on it. 8)

the rumour pit said it was an actual song.

im guessing it wasnt on the spot improv. rather it was probably messed around with in soundcheck/rehearsal...

there isnt much structure as far as guitar parts go but id call it an actual song....

i have a soundboard quality of this...fucking love it.

I'm pretty sure that'd be okay to post. It's not commercially available.
