When will this happen? I'm sure this is illogical, but I would be anticipating this far more than a new PJ album a couple years down the line. Just hearing his solo uke songs, I don't think it's far off that he could make his own Nebraska or Harvest. In the LA Times piece, they said Ed was the "gatekeeper." And even the other band mates said that it isn't a Pearl jam song until he puts his touch on it. While those kind of backhanded insults kind of made me worry for PJ's future, the number one thing I want out of Pearl Jam and Ed, is a solo album. I personally think he should've done it after Yield..but it'll eventually happen. What do you think?

Not sure why you would see that as an insult. Eddie Vedder is Pearl Jam and anyone who thinks differently is smoking something funky. The band (specifically Stone and Mike) have said that guitarists are a dime a dozen but a brilliant songwriter with a distinctive voice is rare. Those guys better be old enough to realize that they are like the Bulls and Ed is Michael Jordan. He has the final say and takes whatever shot he wants and that's the way it should be.

I would love to hear an all Ed album. I love the work he creates with Pearl Jam but wonder sometimes what he would be like exposed to multiple other collaborators (I know he works with other people...but I mean on a serious long-term project). Just him an an acoustic guitar, his uke and some light backing instruments would be awesome as well.

Ed had a solo album. It came out in 94...it was called Vitalogy

Pretty much everything Ed write has is a Pearl Jam song. I don't think you can seperate the two things anyway, Ed and PJ are the same thing. I don't think it'll ever happen...

Do you think he'd actually want to release a solo album? He's never seemed a guy to want to have the focus on him. I can't see it...

This is the way I see it as well. He needs the band so he is not too much in front of everything....

And yes there are a lot of guitar players that can match or top Stone...no ofense but Ed=Jordan says it all.

I don't think he'd release one until the band called it quits. When he wants to collabarate with other people he just does a guest shot on their record.

What we may see (Jeff alluded to this in one of the interviews sticked at the top of the page) is a quick acoustic or punk album to follow this one up, and either one of those is likely to have Eddie's influence all over it.

I've heard that he writes a lot of songs on the ukulele now, which is awesome. I'd love to hear an all uke album. Songs like "Satellite" really stay with you.

I don't think it will happen until Pearl Jam is over, or takes a LONG break.
Only because the album would be, in my opinion, more similar to Pearl Jam than any of the other member's solo stuff.
And while there may be guitarists who are technically better, or whose play I enjoy more, than Stone's or Mike's, they obviously wouldn't be the same band without them.

If he ever does--I just hope he records "Believe You Me' from the Bad Radio Days. Ever since PJ recorded "Better Man", I've been waiting for "Believe You Me".

I've also heard on more than one occassion that left to his own devices, Ed drifts to a pop sound. Could be fun.

PS. I'm actually surprised he hasn't done one, considering ALL his band mates have. It ain't no big thang...just as long as Pearl Jam is the priority for all of them and they all come back to it. It's great that there's a growing music legacy happening here with every release.
