I've read lots of threads on the artwork but what do you think it saying?
It definatly creates a very strong impression on first viewing. I hated the lay out fromt he pics I originally saw. Maybe it's because they are shity, blurred pictures or maybe the retail version isn't as good but I hated it at first glance. This is without seeing the booklet. But I'm going by the copy I have which is the 10C version now. I love it.
What the fuck does the avacado mean? I think when you love the band a lot it's easy to over think what it "means." I've read some posts that I think are over thinking it. My first feelings after looking at the entire booklet is of things being put back together. There is the the puzzle-man, the sewn together hide and remains of human beings throughout the book. Severed Hand has light shining through the broken man, Mike is cracked in Inside Job, the only whole person is Ed in Come Back. So, the avacado is unified on the cover and missing its' core at the end. This to me, relates to the interior artwork in relation to the idea putting the pieces together. The outside and the inside should be unified.
As far as the dead band picture, it's fucking bizarre. It looks like Jeff has a turkey head or somthing over the top of him adn there are ribs and guts surrounding them. It reminds me of sometihng seen in a PETA or Adbusters thing about vegitarinism becuase it shows how human beings are animals too. My thinking about it is that it is reflecting, again, on the fragility of life. We know these guys, and they could just as well be dead soliders.

i actually am oddly tempted to go out and buy an avocado, ive never had one before. maybe it was a deal between pj and the avocado companies to get people to eat more avocados?

I'm not quite sure to make of the artwork. In my first listen to the album, my impression is that much of the material (art and music) definitely has themes of death and embracing not just one's own mortality but that of others and the world as a whole. There's also stuff about the death of freedom, of the American dream, and loved ones. It's a hopeful album in a lot of ways, but I think a lot of that hope revolves around living life and making what you can out of it. I still don't know why there are six people in the pyramid though....I think the guy on top is Mike, Jeff and Stone below him, Matt on the bottom left side of the photo, Ed in the middle, and not sure about the other guy on the bottom.

And though I hate to speculate on this stuff, I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought about this being the last PJ album, with the themes of death also reflecting the death of the band, which is what we see at the end of the book along with the "Thank you, goodnight."

those are clay sculptures... eddie is the only one who hasnt died or has just awaken out of this clay shell. look closer

I see what you're saying, I just don't think that guy looks like Boom, that's all. Plus, why would they put him in the album artwork, yet he's not part of any of the promotional photos or anything we've seen?
