Lynne Cheney's "Sisters" Posted Online

As most everyone has heard by now, Lynne Cheney once wrote a somewhat racy novel (it's usually referred to as a romance novel, but it's more of a Western mystery). Called Sisters, it was published by New American Library's Canadian division in 1981, and almost instantly went out of print. In an interview with the NY Times, Cheney said that the book sold no more than 200 copies, making it extraordinarily scarce. The asking price for a copy is now $500 to $2,000.

Earlier this year, Penguin was set to reissue Sisters, but the day before it was to ship, Cheney's lawyer halted it. [read more]

Happily, an anonymous soul has typed the entire thing and posted it online in blog format. Now you too can enjoy the vague sex, attempted rape, disfiguring violence, animal cruelty, and taking of the Lord's name in vain conjured up by the Second Lady's vivid imagination:

Why would her Lawyer's halt something that would make her money?

I wonder if my mother-in-law has maybe read that book. She's constantly reading lame ass romance novels. Any chance we can find what the cover of this book looks like? :)

No crime, just a copyright violation. Although this might be a violation in some way of the electronic media laws that people are being prosecuted under with MP3's. Copyright violation simply should not be a "crime" no matter how you slice it. It should be a tort.

If that were the case, I wouldn't be very good at it, would I?
As it stands, I've never been to jail.

If we have a contract and I break it, I have committed no crime. But you can still sue me.

Same thing here. Civil vs. Criminal, you remember, like O.J.

Well, I think it's a crime that you locked the Vinland thread. You should go to jail.

That wasn't a Vinland thread. If you wish to open a Vinland thread, as suggested, I won't immediately lock it.

None of this has anything to do with Lynn Cheney. Lock this.
