Your avatar is a good example. Vitalogy on vinyl is much warmer sounding. It feels like you're in the same room with the band while their playing. I also think it helps to be old enough to remember when vinyl was still prevalant. It's a sentimental attachment to vinyl for me. I use to love looking through my parents vinyls.
Lots of reasons, but probably the most obvious is sound quality if the record is clean. Although a CD is high quality, even at the 16/44.1k bit rate CDs are made, there is actually more music to be heard. There is no compression, you get it all. DVD-Audio gets closer with more bits and higher sampling rate, but a records goes all the way. You get it all. Some will say it is "warm" in sound compared to a CD. Lots depends on your playback set up. Throw a tube amp in with a CD player and you can get some "warmness" but a record is pure analog, pure sound amplified to your ears. CDs are no more than a bunch of 1s and 0s put in the right order. I like vinyl for sound, CDs and MP3s for convienence.

ive never really been around anyone that used vinyl besides my grandfather and i was like 5, so ive used cds my whole life, and i guess i never understood why everybody always goes crazy over vinyl
Someone once put it to my like this, consider a wavelength, digital music (cds) waves are actually a bunch of little steps while analog (vinyl) is a smooth line, which gives it "warm" feeling.

It's kind of like classic cars. People collect them and swear by there performance, but are they really a better car than we have today? There is no answer. There are pro's and con's with both. New cars have power seats. Old cars are easier to work on etc...

thats actually a good comparison, i guess i can see it a little clearer now
And "It Just Sounds Better". <== This is the comment I hear the most when talking about vinyls with my friends and looking through the vinyl section at the local music store.

I like vinyl for several reasons...
First and foremost I like the sound better. Hearing the wisp of the record is enticing to me.
Secondly, vinyl is how I grew up with music. I realize that someone who is half my age and only slightly older than my own daughter would potentially struggle with that concept but it is an association for me that is very strong...sitting in front of my parents' record player as a kid with the head phones on listening to great rock albums...The Who, AC/DC, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Beatles, Stones...eventually getting my own albums...more Rush, U2, Guns 'N Roses, Aerosmith, Cure, Ramones...Great times, great music, great feelings...all associated strong with a recordplayer and a pair of headphones.
Lastly, listening to music on vinyl reminds me to be respectful to the medium of music itself. You have to treat record with great care to preserve the quality. You can't use it as a coaster like you can with a CD. Being based with records helps me to appreciate the medium and I find I take better care of my CDs than most folks I encounter do.
Viva La Vinyl!! Spin the Black Circle, Baby!!

It's a package deal for me. 1) The sound is more to my liking. Like stated above, there's zero compression, its the complete recording, and it sounds the absolute best. Some my not notice the difference, but I do. Binaural on vinyl sounds GREAT. 2) The packaging is bigger and better. Prime example: No Code 3) I just heart vinyl.
