I bought this drive a while ago and it's been okay until a couple of months ago, all of a sudden my pc stopped recognizing both my dvd drive and my factory cd burner drive. I've tried unplugging them from the power source and plugging them back in, sometimes it recognizes them, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it recognized them and then 5 minutes later if i explore my c: drive, they are not present, like they have just disappeared. Other times, i can burn cd's for a few days and then it goes. I'm getting real frustrated with this problem. I would really appreciate any help, I am running xp pro on a dell dimension 4100, i've also tried to "add harware" but it never recognizes it. PLEASE HELP!

it could be a bad powersupply plug

the other night, i went to bed with my pc on, as i always do, playing my mp3's throughout the night.

i awoke to no music, and when i turned my monitor on, it was blank, except for, no operating system found.

so after i did what you did, check the cables, i then checked the power supply connectors, and sure enough, the power supply cable to my harddrive was faulty. i simply used a different one and connected it, and viola

with my powersupply, and i dont know if yours has it or not, there are one or two extra plugs (spares) that i was able to use.

i only have my cd writer, dvd drive, and one hard-drive

worst case scenario, you have to buy a new power supply, which should be under $20 or so

it happens to both drives, but everything else is good, i thought i may have to unplug all the power supply plugs and then plug all of them in, i thought disconnecting just one of them might be my problem, arrgh
