I serously reccomend you give this book a go, it is amazing. It is kind of an autobiography about someone called Gregory Roberts. Its his story about how he escaped prison in Australia and managed to get to Bombay, India. Here he strats a new life making new friends and enemys, whilst staying close to the criminal world, and also getting involved in some incredible situations (gunrunning in the afghanistan war!).
This is a novel about love, crime and good and evil. Even though this is a very philosophical book, and long at over 900 pages, it is easy to read and understand, and in this respect reminds me of Orwell's work.
I am not articulate enough to do this book justice so I really do sugest looking for this yourself.

heard it was really good and that johnny depp is making it into a movie
Yeah I had heard that. It will have to be quite a long film as the book is so big with many different stories and characters within it, I hope it will be good.
I think that Johnny Depp is a fan of the book (hence him making the film) so he probably will try to make it as close as possible.
