But I feel the need to spill my guts anyway.

It's sad and horrible that Dime got shot in the head yes. Also we could sit and argue about how important or unimportant that he actually was to metal (maybe I'll even give to the argument he inspired a lot of Americans.) But that's really not the point, where were you guys when Chuck Schuldiner died? where were you when Quorthon died? I mean I don't remember anyone making 3 and 4 posts on RM, and tons of people mourning on metal boards or news sites when these true artists died. I think what the real fascination is here is that he got shot in the face in front of a bunch of people, and our modern world seems to thrive off violence and murder. God forbid we ever massively mourn over someone like Chuck who struggled with brain cancer and died.

You sum it up well there. This is probably IBTL, though

Yep, you were right. You sound like an asshole. If you wanted to discuss the death of these other musicians when they died why the fuck didn't you start a thread about it? Not everybody listens to and/or worships black/death/grindcore/extreme metal. Deal with it and move on. Have a little respect for the people who were fans of Dime and were touched by his music as some point in their lives. Jesus...

I'm almost positive he did.

No one's ever heard of Chuck Schuldiner.
No one's ever heard of Quorthon.
There's nothing newsworthy about dying of brain cancer, especially when no one knows who you are.
No one is saying those people dying isn't tragic, what everyone IS saying is how completely fucked up a situation it was last night. When was the last time you were at a show and people jumped on stage and killed someone?
If Chuck Schuldiner was on stage and was shot along with 4 other people, it would have made the news.
Nothing about this story has anything to do with how "musically talented" Darrell was.

Uh, if you want people to comment on the passing of somebody, they generally have to know who they are.

I bet an old lady died in North Dakota yesterday, but I don't know any old ladies in North Dakota, therefore it doesn't matter much to me.

I posted this in one of the other threads, but for me its a big deal not so much because of "dimebag meant so much" (although i do enjoy his work), but because I am a performing/touring musician myself, and the thought of some crazed fan walking on stage and ending your life before you have a fucking clue, is kind of disturbing.

When you have brain cancer, while sad and tragic, you know you are going to die. Dime was just on stage doing what he loved not knowing he was about to be murdered. So the higher number of posts shouldnt be taken as a measure of musical talent at all.

Where were you when Jermey Michael Ward of The Mars Volta died?

I did not even know about Chuck or Death until about a year ago. His death though sad and heartbreaking for his family / friends / fans was not unexpected. He had been diagnosed with brain cancer for nearly a decade. Dimebag was shot down and his life taken in a blink of an eye.

No, the real fascination is that millions of people knew and loved his music. The 2 people you mentioned were worshipped by, oh, maybe a couple hundred. You don't even have the basis for an argument there. You don't make any sense. Yeah yeah, I'll be upset when I hear a band member of a small band I like dies, but it will pretty much end there. I can't come here and go "RIP Steve McGuitarPlayerGuy" and expect dozens of responses, and similar threads all over the internet. But if I post "RIP Angus Young", well that's a whole different ballgame. Yeah it's sad that those 2 death metal/grindcore/whatever musicians died, but they just didn't have the same name recognition as Darrell. It's as simple as that.

Well spoken.

You do not sound like an asshole, you sound like someone who is tired of the hype and how the media latches onto some things as tragic while other things equally tragic are ignored.

Death of an artist, regardless of what merit is attributed to his or her work, is an unfortunate thing, because artists "share" with the world (often wear their hearts on their sleeve when it comes to their craft), and its sad when that is stifled.

You're point is well taken and understood.

Never be afraid to express your viewpoint.

Yeah you kinda sounded like a dick but whatever, I kind of agree with you.

I am more sad that Chuck died than Darrell but I am more shocked by the circumstance...

For those that don't know, Chuck Schuldiner was the brains behind the band Death. Who, for those that don't know, basically are the single reason that the technical Death Metal genre exists. Dimebag likely was a huge fan.
Quarthon was the brains behind Bathory. Bathory were originators of the Black Metal movement in Europe. I'm not a fan so GEG would have to elaborate.

This whole mess is such a big deal cuz Darrell got his fucking brains blown out onstage. Chuck died in a bed. Nobody could see that coming and at this point, I think more people are reacting to the situation than the loss of a great talent. If it can happen to Darrell, whats to say it can't happen to anyone else. That is what I think people are so freaked out about.

Now I'm kinda sounding like a dick. I am sad Darrell died, I was a big Pantera fan.

i wasn't even a fan of pantera, but fuck man no one should have to go through that shit, and i'm totally willing to go through metal detectors or whatever it takes to keep the musicians and fans safe at concerts

first off, no need to include the words 'about to sound like'

second off, i do recall when on the old board, you made the comment about cancer, and i informed you it wasnt funny, cause my stepmother passed away literally hours before from said disease, and your reply was, fuck you and your stepmother, ill say what ever the fuck i want

so you can sit there and try to get sympathy from everyone and their mother about your horrible (imo) musical tastes and what not and then try to act all high and mighty when something like this happens, but in the end, youre no better than the people youre trying to complain about

I never said anything like that.
