im seeing a lot of people that think that the first five songs on the new album are the strongest, but i think the closing five are all superior and gone, army reserve, come back, and inside job are my favorite songs off of the new cd so far... any one else agree?

Nop. First 4 are the best songs of the album.

I really like comeback but for me the album gets weaker in the end.

'gone' really kills the flow of the album for me... i'm a bit disappointed that they decided to put this one on there... i'll take the first 7!!!

that's usually how it goes... one's favorite is another's least favorite... that's what makes every album so great...

Same here, it's the only one I don't like very much.

I'm going to have to agree with you. It's an extremely close call because as of now Severed Hand is my favorite song off the album and the top 5 is pretty strong, however, the combination of Army Reserve, Come Back, and Inside Job is simply amazing. I absolutely love how these 3 songs flow and are different from most of what PJ has done before. Gone and Wasted reprise are also solid so i'm going to give my vote to the last 5 over the first 5.

I'm still debating about that. I'm a huge fan of All Those Yesterdays, although Inside Job is very close. I think i'm gonna have to hear Inside Job more and see how it sits with me in time.

How dare you associate Marker in the Sand with the first 4 songs!! :)

I believe the album gets progressively better and finishes strong with the 1-2 punch of Come Back and Inside Job.

But that has a lot to do with the type of Pearl Jam that you prefer. If you like fast, punky, heavy hitting PJ then the 1st half of teh album is better suited towards your tastes. If you like a more "chill" sound then you are a 2nd half of the album type. To me the disc plays like two parts - Side A and Side B essentially of a tape or record. I also believe that is how Eddie conceptualizes the track listings too. The band probable thinks more in terms of sides of a vinyl rather than a straight line presentation.

Actually, if you switched Marker in the Sand with Big Wave I think it would play out that dichotomy even stronger.

The first five without a doubt. I'd put those five songs up against any five song stretch on any of their records. The only two that might beat it are the Last Exit-STBC-Not For You-Tremor Christ-Nothingman stretch or any five song stretch of the first 8 songs on Ten.

I'd go with the first five, it's really a sustained amount of energy that has littel comarison. I do love the last five too. The biggest problem of this album for me is the transition in the middle of the record. Big Wave and then Gone is pretty awkward. But I do like how they put most of the fast songs in the front and the slower ones at the back instead of doing what they normally do by breaking them up throughout the album. It was getting formulaic.

Parachutes fucking kills teh momentum that those first 5 build up... if Unemployable was 6th, Come Back 7th, and Parachutes slipped down to 11 or 12 teh album would flow much better..... teh rockers are bunched too tight... that being said Ill take teh first 5

I love both sides. It's about equal if I had to compare.

Comatose is my least favorite track on the album, but it's not a bad song. As far as best 5 in a row, I have to disagree. Any 5 in a row of the first 8 on Vs are better, and so are any 5 in a row on Ten, 4-8 on Vitalogy, and 1-5 on Yield.

I do think the last 5 are really great though, and Inside Job is their best closer since Indifference (unless you want to count Immortality)
