Once the itinerary wraps in November in Australia, the band will choose between additional roadwork in 2007 or starting a new album. From Pearl Jam's perspective, emerging from a period of uncertainty with an album its members love was the best of all possible outcomes.
"We're going to make better and better records as we get older, especially considering this one kind of rocks harder," Gossard says with a tinge of bemusement. "Why should we be rocking harder now? Isn't this when we're supposed to ease into the whole Pink Floyd groove?"

the pink floyd thing was referenced in the Billboard article.
considering the source of the CNN article is Billboard, it all starts to make sense......

With the way the last album turned out, they better choose more touring.
I agree. I can't wait to hear these songs live.
I'd prefer a follow up within the next year. They are on a roll after the less than great yield, binaural and riot act.
waiting to be hit by yield fanboys....
They ALWAYS suggest the possibility of entering the studio ASAP, and they never do. I think they bring it up during the "how awesome are we" post-recording high, and by the time they've been living the road life for months they just want to be home. And as unmotivated as this band is once they sit down on their own couches, I'm guessing there'll be another wait for a record.
I'm guessing a short tour extension followed by a traditional year break before recording.

I think they started the Avocado sessions right after vote for change ended. Can anyone confirm that, or am I wrong?

you're right,
but they already had a year break between vfc and the end of the 2003 tour.
