For the same reason people hate the rich; envy. They just can't stand that PJ is amazing talented and amazingly successful and their favorite band is not.

Zero chance of winning. You sound like a conservative simpleton. Stick to losing wars. You seem to have that down.

Pearl Jam is a great band that got somewhat destroyed by the emo-ness of the fans. I suppose the element is there in the music itself, but a lot of people can't stand the over-sincereness of it all. Sorry guys, a lot of boarders on this forum are the perfect example. We don't need a 1200 word essay explaining all the passion and overcoming of personal faults behind "Inside Job." It is what it is, and its just an excellent song. A lot of it comes off as just really spontaneous and annoying from Pearl Jam fans, and I've been fighting it for years. The only other bands with fans who are just as bad are Tool, Radiohead, and Phish. You guys are nice, good people. You just invest too much emotion into popular music, and I think it takes the actual fun out of it. IMO of course.
Well there is one of my friends whose not the biggest fan (Of course all he listens to is the beatles and maroon 5), but its true that he doesnt like Eddie. Whe eddie growls before each transition during a song (which sounds fucking awesome to me and thats what makes him eddie) he hates it. whatev
1. Ed has a very distinctive voice that grates on some people.
2. The lyrics tend to be very serious and when they are not serious they are liberal and when they are not liberal they are dense and multilayered.
3. Young people hear Pearl jam these days and think their imitators have done a better job at the sound PJ helped to bring into the spotlight. I know many people who would buy Nickelback or Staind before they would even buy classic PJ like Vs..
4. They are old.
5. They don't do videos or the TRL/E!/Carson Daly thing.

Agreed. I think also the fact that the majority of people like music that is fun and can play at a party or rock out to, sometimes pearl jam fails to do this and the whole politics thing is pretty bad, I have no problem with a lot of their causes but the whole Mike Moore style 'Bush is bad m'kay' is really lame...ever tried running a country or even a local council eddie? In a word I don't buy his 'gravitas'...you play guitar and write some good melodies and some good turns of phrase.

You act as if he's not allowed to have an opinion because he doesn't have political experience. At least he has something to say. I think that's a problem with a lot of people though... they want a catchy tune and nothing more. They're content to listen to a Nickelback song about nothing because it's 100% mainstream and doesn't make you think.
