2003 St. Louis was very good, and I was there...Great opener, very exciting.
But this Letterman version was without a doubt the best version I have ever heard. Hands down. I am guessing SL version was just the first time he had ever seen it live (perhaps even his first ever PJ song) because it was in NO WAY better than the Letterman version.

merging a thread cal started will either be A: be the greatest experience ever or B: rip a hole in the space time continuoum
I'll wait until I hear it (watching now). On the one hand I trust your judgement, but on the other hand...

I wouldn't call it the best version ever because it was kind of rough in spots. But the crowd singing was very special.
You don't know me, but I am not prone to hyperbole. That was the best version of the greatest song ever written by the best band in the history of musical sound.

nah, not really. It was a touching, chill-inducing moment in a somewhat rough rendition of a great song.
