Red Mosquito Battle of Pearl Jam Covers

There are a lot of people on this board with some crazy musical talent. So I thought it might be fun to do a RM battle of the bands with Pearl Jam covers. The exact format of this will depend on the number of people interested in participating. What I’m picturing right now is something similar to a March Madness style tournament where every day people are asked to listen to two songs (through rapidshare or something like that) and vote on the one they like best, with winners advancing. If there are not a lot of participants we can do it more like a league where people go up against each other multiple times

So requirements for entry
1. You have to be able to record and post your music
2. You have to be able to cover multiple Pearl Jam songs (songs that PJ covers count here)
3. Solo or group is fine (I'm assuming there will be more solo covers)
4. Willingness to subject yourself to public scrutiny

I’m going to police this thread pretty carefully once the actual tournament starts. Be constructive when commenting on people's performances. If you don’t like something fine, and if you think it sucks that’s fine, but be mature with your comments. If you’re a dick you will be warned, and if you’re a dick multiple times you may be going on a small vacation.

So if you like this idea and are interested in participating just say so. We’ll start this in about two weeks. I'll announce the rules 5/15, and it will begin Monday the 22nd.

I'm in. I warn you now that I can't sing, but fuck it. Stone's Bitches will own this, I predict Porchball wins.

My money is on Porchball as well. I may enter, but I'll end up losing. It will be fun anyway.

I don't think they should count. A cover of a cover is technically a cover of the original in my opinion. Someone covering Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower is still doing a cover of Dylan, for example.

I'd prefer just PJ songs myself but certain songs are such an important part of the bands catalogue that they really should count. and I want to encourage as many people to get in on this as possible.

Count me in, even if my singing leaves something to be desired.

Are we going for exact PJ duplicates, or originality here?

I think as long as you're covering a song they did, it doesn't matter how you do it. I think throwing a little of your own into the song is great.

Good Question. What kind of restrictions could/should there be?

It's up to Stip but, how about no karaoke tracks. This shouldn't even have to be said, but just in case.

Agreed. I would rather hear an acapella version than a karaoke version.
