i thought so too, maybe they hadn't rehearsed that version enough before the show.

what are you talking about, that was the best version since the first time mike and eddie did it...

It wasn't as bad as people are saying it was. I still think the Bridge School version and any VFC version is better, especially the VFC finale version which I consider to be the best.

There's really no reason for Eddie to be playing guitar on this.

this is true, in fact this is true on several songs.

Actually, if you watch real close, sometimes eddie will play a bar or two up at the 14th fret (that's an octave up from open Em) so he is doing something different.

My theory on the sub par quality of this performance is that they had just played two absolutely rockin shows in Beantown and were headed to Reading. Reading was incredible, so my guess is that they just had an off night in a craptacular place to play music. Even our boys are allowed a mulligan every now and again. That being said I still enjoyed watching them on TV last night. It caught me by suprise which is always nice.

My $.02

My husband woke me up at 2.45 in the morning to see them on tv. Of course I got up to watch it, even though I'd seen it before. I always like seeing the boys on tv, repeat or not. I dont think it was a bad performance at all.

Eddie sounded flat through the first half of the song. Not their best performance.

I wasn't really paying attention to the vocals. I liked the tone of the new arrangement.

I'm just wondering if you guys were watching the same performance I did. :?

I think this version is second only to the Bobfest original. There is a slow burn happening here that is really powerful and an intensity, not only to the vocal, but to the buildup of dynamics of the band sound at key moments in the song that blew me away.

btw, as far as Ed on guitar, his part is what adds the tension to the mix that makes this version so powerful.

The Bobfest version was all about full out anger. This new version and even the way it was edited on Letterman was a direct, concentrated reaction to the times and couldn't be more appropriate, dealing with all the aspects in question: the war mongers, the religious right and the greed that prompted this latest war.

I may never have been more proud to be a fan of this band than I was on the night this first aired.
