Anyone who seriously thinks that we've committed military forces to what will most likely be a 10+ year occupation due to cultural disagreements is insane. We invaded Iraq because Iraq, like many other nations in that region, was a state sponsor of terror. State sponsorship of terror is defined as any government which provides comfort and aid to terrorists, which Saddam did. He attempted to assasinate a US President, and y'know what? The fact that it's Bush's Dad is irrelevant.

We're the most powerful nation in the world, you don't just try and off our leaders and expect to skip off into the sunset. Not long ago, an escaped former Saddam aide wrote a book about how he was ordered to assist in developing chemical weaponry for use against the US.

It's well-known that Saddam made cash payments to the families of suicide bombers who killed (among other people) US citizens in Israel. Why is the logic of this strategy so hard to grasp? Dictators who deny basic rights to their own citizens will always - always - seek to export the same tyranny beyond their own borders. Strategically, would it have made more sense to invade Iran or North Korea? Probably. But morally? Dictators have no rights. A state is not soverign if its citizens aren't soverign. A free nation has every right to defend itself against hostile tyranny, domestic and abroad.

Is this about Henry Kissinger? Guantanamo Bay?

I'm done arguing against the legitimacy of the war, and against the justifications given by those who started it. There's plenty of threads here that's covered that. All that's left to say is the occupying forces are fucked if they stay, and fucked if they leave.

I know it's a beaten theme. I just read this interview with Sully from Godsmack where this reporter with an agenda tried to pretty much say that Iraq was this harmless little landmass that we sent to hell. And I never did understand how a nation of the enslaved could be "soverign."

In lieu of a position, substitute funny pictures!

Actually, you've given your position in another thread. And the pictures are funny. But still.

Dude, no one gives a shit about this issue anymore. It's so old, bored, and tired. Wanna debate about our position in Bosnia?

Of his 14000 posts, I'm guessing Eric would've commented on this about 2000 times.

Yeah, why delay quagmires? Doesn't seem to make any sense not to get them out of the way a little quicker.

If you're not interested don't click on the post. You do realise that in slating it you're bumping it up the board?

Either way you've just given it a bump.

You've complained about people bumping it twice already. (Both of which, btw, also caused a bump. )

And god dammit, it's Monday and I'm cranky.

I've mentioned it being bumped, not complained. Although I did complain in the same posts [^]
