This is truly a sad day to be a Dodger fan....We have a superstar in the making in Adrian Beltre who is about to leave us because of Scott "Human Pile of Shit" Boras......and our GM counters that with JEFF KENT? THIRTY SIX YR OLD JEFF KENT?

LA has thee best double play combo in the WORLD in Izturis/Cora, and have gaping holes at catcher, first base, and soon third, so they go sign a guy they have no need for? Jeff Kent and his prono mustache wont replace Beltres numbers, or his ability to drive in game winning rbi, which he led the league in last year......

Kent was a pretty decent player in his prime, and has enough longevity to be considered a HOF player, but hes nothing more than a nice addition to someones already potent lineup (right Frisco fans?)

Another 3rd place finish is in store for the suddenly small market LOS ANGELES dodgers :(

perhaps he is dealt for zito or hudson. Or maybe depodesta has more of a grasp than you do of his team. Yeah, I think he probably does.

Or maybe Depodesta is a moneyball reject who is working with Frank McCourt's broke-ass budget. but thanks for the smartass reply

a reject?

When was the last time the Dodgers won the west without Depodesta as their GM?

Jeff Kent can play first base or third . . . and he didn't necessarily put up crappy numbers last year. He hit .289 with almost 30 HR's and over 100 RBI. That's a lot better than your $16 million a year current first baseman. Corey Koskie can be signed. That would free up some money to sign Matt Clement or go after a trade for Hudson (and then sign him to a contract extension). I see this deal as a good one for the Dodgers.

Not if Nomar's incentives kick in (particularly for games played). Those are worth, total, $3 million.

I think everybody's overpayed thus far in the free agent market. The money Guzman and Omar Vizquel received is ridiculous. Even Glaus signing yesterday is a lot, considering the guy could have shoulder troubles for awhile (by the way, where the hell are the Diamondbacks coming up with the money?).

i think i was a better speller in middle school :(

i'm actually a giants fan but i don't think they overpaid for vizquel...i just had a problem with the length of the contract..i thought benitez was a decent signing though, considering percival somehow got 6 million a year

what did they pay for benitez? and what did hermanson get?

I was hoping atlanta would get a closer and put smoltz back where he belongs but it doesn't look promising.

backloaded deal..but ended up being 3 years $21 million i believe....i'm not 100% sure on hermanson's....i'm thinking like $2.5 million a year for 2 years though....the chisox said he'd be a setup man though..which is what he didn't wanna do with the giants

yeah i doubt Atlanta does that as well....who are they gonna replace drew with?

I dunno. I can't believe they didn't re-sign Drew. Now I can't see them trading Andruw Jones either, which I was also hoping for. But I guess they'll start the season with a platoon in left of Marrero and Charles Thomas and they'll maybe sign a rightfielder or make a trade. I think Tim Hudson will be a Brave next year though. Him or Zito.

Those numbers are also hitting behind Barry Bonds, who gets on base 90% of the time.
