Former "newly-converted" atheist Anthony Flew takes the side of Thomas Jefferson's distant, uncaring "prime mover" God.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=s ... ng_atheist

Expect numerous preachers eager to push God (but unmindful of the God that Flew has in mind) to incorporate this into their sermons over the holidays.

I was just about to post this when i realized that I really dont care to much about what others believe in terms of religion. Everyone has their own beliefs and whatnot. Good for him for being able to admit that everything he stood for over the past half century may not be true. That takes some guts.

Just tell them you don't believe in discussing religion or politics at family gatherings, then start a pleasant chat about the rustling snowflakes. :)

Agree with Kilman though, props to the guy for being brave to speak out what he thinks.

At age 81, after decades of insisting belief is a mistake, Antony Flew has concluded that some sort of intelligence or first cause must have created the universe. A super-intelligence is the only good explanation for the origin of life and the complexity of nature, Flew said in a telephone interview from England.

Sounds like Flew has thrown in the intellectual towel near the end of the fight. Instead of standing by his guns and being comfortable with there being NO GOOD EXPLANATION, he feels the need to come up with SOME EXPLANATION, so he has accepted this deist answer at the end of his life.

Way to go Flew, you are a DOUCHEBAG OF PHILOSOPHY!

The way that story is written irritates me a bit. Despite what he may believe, there's no "scientific evidence" that he found to point to god. It's only his completely subjective assertion, and that should have been pointed out more clearly. The belief system of intelligent design is not scientific.
He's also an old man, suddenly finding god near the end of his life. He's not the first.

Is "I won't be able to figure it out before I die" considered evidence? And besides, if the origin if life is too complex and therefore an indication of a creator...who created the creator?

If you're athiest, why are you going home for Christmas? Shouldn't you just stick around and work?

Yuletime really has nothing to do with Christ, at all.

Right - it isn't a religious holiday at all.

I'm not talking about Vinland Christmas here :P

Atheists don't have families, they're not pro-family, don't you know that?

No it isn't stupid. All year people bitch and piss and moan that *gasp* there will be a Christmas tree downtown or a cross on some highway or something. Put your damned money where your mouth is and don't use a religious holiday given to you.

Actually, today most of them will fit the bill. Anything else you'd care to insult me on, you petty jackass?
