I thought this review from Austin360.com was quite entertaining.

Pearl Jam
'Pearl Jam'
(J)

There's no reason this album had to be made. There are no great songs that had to get out, no new ideas. The Most Overrated Band of All Time couldn't even come up with a title, as if all their creativity were used up on stunts like guessing what would it would've sounded like if the Replacements covered Bruce Springsteen on "Unemployable." Critics, as prone to deviation as the lunchtime queue at Freebird's, have lined up to call this new sonic tortilla from Eddie Vedder and Mother Lovegarden a return to form, like "Vitalogy" and all the ensuing songless attitude jams never happened. But there's no "Animal" here, no "Daughter," no "Glorified G." Let's face it: Pearl Jam stopped mattering when Vedder became too old to climb stuff.

This is a band with nothing left to say, but because it's wartime, this crashing bore is being hailed as some major statement. PJ's eighth studio LP charges out of the gate with five straight rockers, but only one of them, "Marker In the Sand," is more than fast and loud. Recycling AC/DC riffs? Tapping into the Ramones? The last resort of the musically spent.

Vedder's thick quaver almost saves the album at the end, with the near ballad "Come Back" and the engaging "Inside Job" finally providing some personality. But you've got to wade through a lot of muck to get there.

A popular concert attraction does need an excuse to tour and make all that money playing old songs. Well, guess we just found the reason this album had to be made.

— Michael Corcoran

I've seen a couple of negative reviews of the album that were fair criticisms, but if you think Pearl Jam is the most overrated band of all time, that "Vitalogy" is made up of "songless attitude jams" and that Animal and Glorified G are the height of the band's artistic ability...I really can't take you seriously.

agreed. VS pretty much is in the lower half on the quality scale as far as albums are concerned.

It's kind of obvious that he knew what kind of review he was going to give this album before he listened to it.

He mentioned AC/DC, which I've never though about, but a song like Life Wasted definitely sounds like them.

That's the website for the Austin American-Statesman (austin's newspaper).

But yeah, it was poorly done.

Wait till I'm done with my director's cut.

If he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. I'm sure his dog probably won't be on fire tomorrow because of it.
