Does anyone else have a thing for this movie? I really like it. I thought it was a great movie. And the songs that they have, especially the title track, are actually really catchy songs.

I love this movie! I agree, it really is a good movie, and some of the songs are great. The personalities in the band made it so genuinely funny, and it was a neat story.
"That Thing You Do" has to be one of the catchiest songs I've ever heard. I love the scene where the drummer intentionally speeds up the ballad and thus begins the song as a huge pop hit.

Who's in it and what's it about?
Directed by Tom Hanks.
Starring: Tom Hanks, Tom Everett Scott, Liv Tyler, Steve Zahn, Ethan Embry, Giovanni Ribisi
Summary:
Guy Patterson (Tom Everett Scott) works at his dad's appliance store and plays the drums in his free time. Guy's friend tells him a local rock band, The One-Ders or "wonders", need of a drummer they have a contest coming up and their usual drummer has a broken arm. Guy sits in, but when it's time to play their best original, a love ballad called "That Thing You Do," Guy lays in a sharp, driving beat that turns the tune into uptempo pop. Jimmy (Johnathon Schaech) the lead singer isn't happy, but guitarist Lenny (Steve Zahn) and Bass Player (Ethan Embry) think the song sounds better that way and they notice the girls like it too. Soon people are actually requesting the song at their shows, and the One-Ders scrape together some money to press a single of "That Thing You Do" to sell at shows. A DJ puts the song on the radio, and opportunity knocks in the form of Mr. White (Tom Hanks), who works for the Play-Tone Records label. Play-Tone buys the rights to "That Thing You Do" and puts the band on the road as their song makes it way to the top of the charts and the future of the band is in doubt as The Wonders get more famous. That Thing You Do was a very good story and the people did a nice job making it feel like 1964 all over again. Tom Hanks did a pretty good job with this.
if anyone's a fountain of wayne of fan, adam schlerereevd (i can't spell his last name) wrote the title track. hanks actually wrote a few of the tunes himself.
it's one of those movies i always sit and watch when it's on.
