Any other runners on the board? One thing I've noticed about Avocado/Pearl Jam is that it's probably the first PJ album since Vs. or Vitalogy whose first one-five tracks or so are suited to running. Not so much running-ready material on RA, Binaural, etc. Anyone else notice that?

Comatose is an awesome song to run to.

RVM or Go is the best song to run to

I'm a runner. I listen to 95% PJ. I typically go for live shows. I find Lost Dogs also good to run to. I think you may be right about Avo, of the studio albums, it is probably the best for running. I say 95% PJ because Rancid's Indestructible may be the best ever CD for running. For marathons or ultras I typical start with Rancid flow into PJ then kick back in Rancid if I am struggling.

Live shows are definitely some of the best running options.

Agreed on Go and RVM, btw. Why Go is another good one.

Rockin' songs motivate me to run harder. I like a little RATM or a good Fuel tune...and PJ definitely has their share in that category.

Aforementioned songs like Go and Animal fit (foot?) the bill quite nicely.

I don't know what distance you guys are running, but for me it's all about conserving energy for later in the run. I start with rockin' songs not to run faster, but just to wake me up. The rhythm of the song is what's important to me. I find songs like MITS and Betterman to be perfect for longer distances.

I always enjoy it when I hit a live version of Porch when I am finishing up a 5-6 mile run. It is usually good for the last mile, and always seems to keep me going when my body says "stop".

I just started running this year. Always listen to m iPod but lately the only thing I've been listening to while running is the new PJ. It seems to fit really well for me. Might try out some boots though, maybe some of the new ones.

I posted about running to PJ in a different thread the other day. I love listening to live shows when I run because you get a real feel for the actual pace the band follows in concert.

The band almost always opens with a slow song to start - this is my walking song to elevate the heart rate.

Then you get 6-7 fast rockers - this is where I hit my normal stride.

After that the band will catch their breath, Eddie will say a few words to the crowd, and they will do a slower song like small town, NAIS, cropduster etc.

Once that first slow song hits I totally downshift - either to a walk or a moderate jog. If i have any energy left i will try to start running again when the set picks back up - which is usually an Even Flow or Betterman or something like that and that is my final push!

They had a thread like this about a year ago. I think there was a vote. I also remember several people citing that Whipping was a good running song.

I myself cannot run.

RVM is dangerous, when running to it I always run faster and faster untill I'm so tired I just collapse on the ground :D

I don't listen to music when I run.
If I ran long distances I probably would.

Personally, I love running to Severed - that intro gets your blood going and then when the guitars come in it's time to fly.

Also after about 2 miles when you need a pick me up, Big Wave suits me just fine.

In all honesty, I run so I won't be an unhealthy fat ass like the rest of my family. As long as I'm running 20 - 30 miles a week, I can eat as much as I want and still maintain my weight. I generally eat pretty healthy, but after my long runs I eat fast food crap. I love fast food, but I only eat it once, maybe twice a week. I keep it special. Del Taco and In 'N Out are my favs.
