How in the good name of crap could the Royals possibly afford that contract?

And, seriously, if I were a Royals fan and they spent all that money on a worthless has-been like Sosa instead of bringing in several good players that may actually help them field a competitive team with that money, I would probably firebomb Kaufman Stadium.

Great point, but the rumors have the cubs eating most of sosa's salary,
because there's no way a single fan shows up at the k if they shell out that kind of money for an aging slugger and not a young amazing all around player(BELTRAN)

Yeah, I guess, but aren't the Cubs trying to dump a vast majority of Sosa's contract so they can make a run at Beltran?

It must suck to be a Royals fan, dude. I'm an Indians fan and it sucks to be an Indians fan, but we don't have it nearly as bad as you guys.

Yeah, Auggie, at least you have that stomping of the Yankees to take pride in. The poor KC fans don't have anything. :( Condolences from an O's fan.

true.

And this would be a monumentally stupid move by the Royals. Jesus that's a stupid organization.

guys it does suck being a royals fan,it's probably the hardest team to root for, atleast the phillies are making an attempt to win(thome, millwood)
the royals "big free agents"have been Juan Gonzales,Chuck Knoblauch, and a very aged terry pendleton, but i must say 05 is going to be great to watch because we have some amazing young talent,we may lose quit a few but my hopes are high,*slowly sheds a tear*

Well I did hear on ESPN that the Cubs would even be willing to pay for most of his salary next year if it means getting rid of him. If that's the case, then that's the only reason why the Royals could afford him.

The Phillies are the worst run team in all of sports hands down. They had the guts to raise ticket prices this off season after the season they had on the field

I'd love to see the alleged details of this kooky deal. To the Royals? For WHAT? They've got nothing to offer in return, their farm system sucks and the only talent worth a salt in the entire organization is Greinke.

If the Royals pull the trigger on this, Allan Baird will officially be dumber than Elgin Baylor.

The Royals have doodly-squat. What was the last guy not named Beltran that came out of that system and performed? Berroa? I wouldn't count him as a player yet, not after that disaster in 2004. Dee Brown? Bob Hamelin? They have prospects, but the Royals system over the last 10 years is pretty miserable and I wouldn't be hot after many players they've tutored.
