Barbaro opened at Even money... he's a pretty big favorite imo... i think he walks away with the Preakness, but falls short in the Belmont... pretty much every other Derby winners' fate the past decade or so
out of about 15 guys bets at the Derby, not one took Barbaro... so, we're all a little bitter about this pony

Barbaro is just a huge horse, literally. I think he takes the Preakness but tires by the end of the Belmont. Triple Crown in horse racing is the hardest physical feat in sports.
I guess the "sport of kings" is a little too highbrow for the left coast...

I never really followed horse racing much until I moved to Louisville, KY. These people really follow this stuff. Anyway, last year I went to the derby and bet on a horse to win and he finished dead last. It was fun going and experiencing it, though. This year, my buddy calls me and asks me if I want to make a bet on this year's derby. Remembering last year's last place finish, I decided that my luck couldn't be any worse, so I told him to put $10 on Barbaro. Sure enough, he wins! Too bad I only won $61.
From what the locals are saying it looks like Barbaro is a sure thing for the Preakness. The big test will be the Belmont. The locals are saying that when only two or three losing horses from the Kentucky Derby enter the Preakness it is pretty much a sign that the other owners don't think they can beat Barbaro.
I am sure the Belmont field will be big, though, because everyone knows how hard it is to win the triple crown.

I always get nervous watching horse races because I hate seeing a horse trip up or take a bad step. It looks so painful. It sucks that one bad step like that can end a horse's career, and could potentially be life-threatening.
