A duplicate of the thread I made on MP.
----------
I don't know if I'll get a 10c response to this email. I'd like to think so. Anyway, this is what I sent to 10c regarding the Australian debacle around annoucing additional shows. I just thought I might share it. Disagree all you want and call me a whiny bastard or whatever, I don't care.
----------
Firstly, I'd like to thank you for providing me with 10c tickets to the first show. I accept that 10c was unable to secure seating for the second show. That's not what this email is about.
This email is about the misleading information posted on your website, regarding additional shows. I quote from your site:
"The public on-sale for all announced Australian tour dates is Friday May 19th at 9am thru Ticketek.com. Stay posted to http://www.pearljam.com for additional show announcements in the near future!"
I followed your advice very closely, checking in multiple times each day. I always expected additional dates. Unable to secure tickets to the Melbourne show, I took part in this morning's public sale, lining up outside the ticket outlet from 6am. I was able to secure my Melbourne ticket with no problems. Here is the main issue.
Not one single person in the queue knew at that stage that a 2nd Sydney show has been announced by the Ticketek website, a mere few minutes before the opening sale, until someone was informed of the announcement on the Ticketek website. According to the statement above, 10c were going to put up additional show announcements in the near future. Basically put, 10c deceived the fans. The 2nd Sydney show is now close to a sell out, and the only seats left are in the rafters with a miniscule view. I'll leave my criticisms for the venue aside, as that has little to do with 10c.
I'm unwilling to accept those seats, and I have effectively missed out on the sale of the second show, although I do share responsibility over a misunderstanding between myself and the ticketing attendent over whether I wanted Sydney 1st or 2nd. My point is this-
If 10c is unable to provide the information on matters such as additional shows, don't say otherwise. That Sydney 2nd is close to a sell out, with still no 10c acknowledgement that it even exists, just magnifies my point that much more. As a paid up 10c member, I believe I deserve a higher quality of service.
I am not asking for any form of compensation. 10c's misinformation isn't the only reason I missed out on acceptable tickets. What I would like is a statement on the 10c website to admit to the mistake, explain clearly as to why 10c has been unable to follow up with the fans on the status of additional shows, and pledge to do the very best to ensure that this does not happen again in the future.
I love the band very much. A key point for their success is the dedication of the fans. If things like this keep happening, more and more fans will become disillusioned and lead to all kinds of negative outcomes for the band and 10c. I do hope 10c learns from this experience.

From 10 club manager
Dear Hinny,
Do the toilets really flush the opposite direction down there?
G'day and thanks for supporting PJ.

that's a nice example of how to write an eloquent complaint. This is a real problem--similar to not announcing that there won't be southern dates. If they can't play everywhere fine, but for an orgainization that is famous for taking care of its fans the way that this whole tour has been handled is pretty remarkable for its macro level inconsiderateness.

For the record, there have been shows that have gone on sale without the Ten Club announcing them. The second Boston show from 2003 comes to mind; it was added the same day tickets for night one went on sale, I think. But I do not remember anything on the 10C site at that time saying to check back there for additional show updates.
Regardless of that situation, your complaint is still valid. I hope they answer you intelligently and honestly.

Hinny, I sympathise with your situation. I look forward to 10C's reply to this, be sure to post it promptly. Let's hope they don't give out their famed one word responses.

Yeah I know, I remember having to order public tickets to that second Boston show like the rest of the scrubs. But since back then the 10C didn't say, "Check back here for added shows," Hinny has more of a basis for a real, reasonable complaint.

I can't complain. 10c not offering second show tickets was how I got into the front row in 03. My friend bought tickets at the venue on the sale date, and just by asking for seats, got row 2 pit. (I jennied us up to the front row). Because of 10club, I'll always have Okay seats. But I'll never be in the front row again. So it's a double edge sword, really.

So, by your reasoning 10C should announce every city that they will not be playing? HOw about they announce what cities they wont be playing and let us figure out what cities they will be playing? For every action of the 10C there is an equal and opposite reaction amongst the fans.

I think you've missed the point. They aren't asking for explict details. Something like, "We're only doing those two legs in the US this tour." That way, people who live in the south, for instance, would know that they need to travel a bit if they want to see a show. Or maybe, "We have plans to tour more this year and we are working on shows for the southern US or where ever." People just want a heads up so they can plan accordingly.

Exactly. I've seen bands who don't even talk themselves up as being "dedicated to the fans" at least have the consideration to give clues as to whether they'll hit a certain large swath of area or not... Such as, "Don't worry, there are more dates yet to be announced, so we might still hit Houston" or something along those lines. Or, "Sorry if your location isn't announced, those are all the dates we will be playing. Better luck next time."

is "inconsiderateness" even a word, stip?
But, yes, I, too am a little ticked that haven't even addressed the fact that the closest shows to the southeast are DC and Cincinnati. If they don't want to play the South, or can't for some reason, fine, let us know. If they are going to have a tour in the future that hits the southeast, fine, let us know. But, damn, don't just act like the entire region doesn't exist.
