Now so many people completely make nothing of Bonds hitting 714 because of the roid, and nearly all other HR makrs nowadays. But why are actual game results never disregarded as such? We know roids are in the game, but we have no way of knowing exactly who is doing what, but clearly there is an advantage somewhere in there. Why aren't the WS champions of the last 10 years completely disregarded like all these home run totals?

good point. barry's giants got in vs. the angels a few years back, for example.

Maybe it's because I'm a huge White Sox fan, but I'm pretty sure none of the players on last year's team were on 'roids. Their offense was predicated on laying down bunts, stealing, and the hit and run. Sure they had some power with Konerko and Dye (and now Thome), but this is a team that goes out and plays good fundamental baseball.

Has anyone ever heard a commentator or write bring up the fact that the entire 2002 NL championship Giants season is tainted?

How bout the 2000 Mets, last year Brian McRae came out and said that the late 90's teams were into roids.

this is a load of bullshit fed to the public by ozzie guillen. the white sox hit 200 home runs last year, fifth in the league. they were 16th in the league in sacrifice hits. they stole a lot, but that was skewed by the presence of podsednik. and anyway, since they were 22nd in the league in stolen base percentage at 67% it's virtually impossible stealing bases added to the team's run total through the course of the season.

thing is, the white sox weren't that good of an offensive team, and if they didn't have massive amounts of power last year they'd have been the pirates. but they had excellent starting pitching and some really aberrational performances from otherwise bad pitchers like dustin hermanson and cliff politte that put the team over the hump. this crap they relied on bunts and small ball is just mumbo jumbo.

they're better this year, by the way.

Honestly? I think its based on an assumption that all the teams had a couple guys on roids... it balanced on a team level to some extent.

exactly. Unless MLB is able to go back in time and figure out exactly what hitters and pitchers were using steroids, it's pointless to dispute W-L records and outcomes of specific games IMO.
