I rarely post on Synergy, but I posted this there in the hopes that Tim might read it. What do you think?

I benefit from a decent fan club number (122XXX); my seats are usually between 5 and 10 rows from the stage. I love sitting up close at the shows and I rock my ass off when I'm up there. I wouldn't want to lose the privilege of having great seats; however, I would like to share that experience with newer and younger 10 club members. In fact, I'm happily giving my 10 club seats this week to 2 friends/relatives who are long time PJ fans but have never seen them before.

My proposed solution is this: For the first 20 rows, every 3rd pair of ten club tickets goes to a randomly selected 10 club member. The remainder of seats would continue to be allocated by seniority. This would continue Pearl Jam's longstanding commitment to seniority seating, but also get some younger and newer fans up front. The seating impact on a long-time fan club member like me, for example might be that my seats are 7th row instead of 5th row. I would be happy to sit a few rows further back in order to jump-start the floor crowd and generate some more excitement within the fan club.

I'm not sure if this solution would be technically feasible, but I think it's worthy of consideration.

I like the idea of sharing the wealth. What I like a little better is extending the 10c pre sales to two days. Everyone gets 1 priority/home town show and those people get the best seats for that show, and after that you open it up to the 10c hordes.

I've seen that idea before also. I think the "home show" change might be a little more difficult to administer administratively. And selfishly, I prefer my idea because I don't want to be limited to great seats for only one show.

the home town 10c tickets sounds good. I understand people like to travel with the band, why should the home town 10c members suffer (who are only going to that one show like myself) and all the good seats up front are taken. Dont get me wrong I got 12th row for the toronto shows, but would love to sit closer if given the chance.

I think that's a great idea! I've got a decent # myself (176xxx), but would definitely be willing to let some of the newer folks sit up front. It would probably be a pain to sort out the logistics, but I'm sure it's doable. It's about time we get some people under age 30 in the first few rows :P

Quint, since you live in Jersey, and since I've never sat within the first 20 rows (TC # 201XXX), maybe we should trade next time you have show tix.

You're such a nice man. :D

I like the idea but if you only went to 2 or 3 shows a tour chances are you wouldn't get the closer seats.

Personally, I think this is the only way to go. I feel that in a "randomly selected" instance you will have far more people complaining, because many people will never get a decent seat and there is no truely random way of picking (software is close, but still not completely random).

That said, with this years tour that would have stunk for most of the people in the South in the US, since who knows what they would have chosen for a "home town" show. I live in KC and I would have chosen Cincy, but others who are not as centrally located would likely have a tougher time. Same can be said for people around the world that are fan-club members and do not have PJ coming with thousands or miles of them. Also, you have the issue of a town like New York (or in the case of a few weeks from now East Rutherford) where even though there are multiple shows, there are going to be FAR more fan club members attending the shows than at a normal show. Those who used that as a home town show could still potentially get set back 30+ rows, due to sheer volume of fan club members.

I am not sure there is a perfect solution, but I am extremely happy to still get better seats than the general public to EVERY single PJ show I attend.

I like the idea of a 10C hometown advantage. But what would define "hometown?" I see that you are from Toronto and lots of people could claim Toronto as their hometown and yet live out in Whitby or Guelph. Which would start off mini 10C scrums over seniority and the likes. "I live in Etobicoke, why does the guy from Oakville get better seats than me? I'm the one with the better 10c number" and so forth.

But overall, I'm sure all local 10c members of any particular town would stand to benefit from such a policy.

Sharing the wealth is definitely a good idea.

some people on this board may think that's is a good idea, and that we should spread the wealth (people with higher numbers like me would greatly appreciate it), but I can imagine plenty of snobs who would definitely be quite angered by it, which is kinda crappy.

It shouldn't be much problem adding a section in 10C profile to define prefered hometown for intl fans......

Yeah, if I was a low number I would have no problem with sharing the better seats every once in awhile. As long as I still get good seats too and am not totally left out all the time. It's good for PJ and it's good for the hardcore fans.

:D

I know that this is one of those issues where somebody is going to bitch about no matter what.

But looks like there is a lot of room for improvements.

Specially for those less fortunate who live abroad.......... :(

Instead of "hometown," think of it as "priority."
I live in northeast PA. The only show I was able to go to this tour was Albany. That would get "priority" designation for me even though it is not my "hometown."

Most likely someone will bitch no matter what. We should all be able to agree on something though. Something that is best for PJ, since they play to so many of the same people night after night, and something better for all the fans.

How about free tickets in front row if you live in Venezuela and it is your first show?

That sounds fair to me.

How about changing it to general admission on the floor so they can put more people on the floor and the people who spend their time getting to the venue super early are the ones who benefit.

Personally, I think this is the worst idea of them all. They got rid of GA shows for a reason.
