For those of you with iPods (or Minis):

I just bought my girl a new iPod mini for Christmas and I want to pre-load all the songs on it for her so when she opens it it will be ready to go.

I opened it up and put the CD in. It asked me to plug in the iPod. Then it said the iPod had to be formatted so I clicked the 'Format' button. Now the program is saying "Waiting for iPod" and the status bar is cycling while the iPod display is flashing 'Do Not Disconnect.' There is a small circular arrows icon blinking in the top left-hand corner and the battery is charging (icon) in the top right.

Do I need to leave it alone or do something? I have let it sit for 20 minutes or so and it hasn't changed. I tried to 'Safely Remove' the iPod mini, but it says that the 'device cannot be stopped right now'.

Is this normal? Is the iPod formatting and the "Waiting for iPod" is just an indication of waiting for it to finish formatting?

Help! :)

I had this problem awhile back when I got a mini for my girlfriend. It connected to my Mac w/no problems, but I had all kinds of issues when I tried to connect it to her pc. So the first solution is get a Mac. Otherwise this should work:

Downolad the latest updater:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ ... 41115.html

Install the software, and restart the computer with the ipod unattached. Restart the iPod by holding down the Menu and Select (center) buttons for ~6-10 seconds. Plug it in to your computer, then go into the updater software and "restore" conditions to factory. You'll have to disconnect again and flash the ipod by plugging it into power. Reconnect the iPod and make sure it shows your hard drive size and updated 1.2 version.

If this doesn't work, go to Apple's discussion boards, you'll find more help there.

Ah. I got it. I just needed to completely install the software suite without connecting the iPod and afterwards connect the iPod, flash the firmware, and then it worked.

Thanks for the help!
