In the last year of 4 year 44 million dollar contract.

Hasn't played a full season once in the four years. For a franchise already strapped for cash, that's what we spent the money on. Despite the team being owned by Wal-Mart chairman David Glass.

any time a player can be paid millions of dollars for being successful 1/3 of the time, i would say overpaid

but, theres not a person on this board that would turn down any the money that is paid to athletes

Surely all sportsmen are overpaid in the majorly watched arenas. I feel it's stupid that guys who throw a ball around get paid 9 million dollars a year. even footballers in the UK get paid around £20000 a week. That's just ludicrous.

it depends on the context, i.e. whether we're talking overpaid relative to production or team budget. if it's the second one, which i find more important, guys like the big unit and keith foulke are pretty much disqualified, since their teams have pretty much unlimited budgets.

so, i'd keep the discussion to guys like park, who makes roughly a quarter of his team's total payroll. having said that, i choose park, russ ortiz and adrian beltre. looking back, it's incredible anybody ever criticized paul depodesta for not re-signing adrian beltre. had he re-signed him they'd be in a very similar place as the mariners are right now.
