I understand it's not PJ's greatest song, but it's one of their most fun, in my opinion. Musically, it's hard at the beginning with a great, upbeat groove for the chorus. Yes the lyrics are outdated since we are not young anymore, but so what? I just don't understand why people say it's one of PJ's worst songs. Your thoughts?

I was kind of under the impression that with the Leash campaign in action, that this was actually a very popular song for the hardcore fans. And with them having played it at the soundcheck, it does not appear to be too far off from being played. Where are you seeing the hate for Leash?
While I agree that we are not young anymore, and I personally appreciated it more when I was younger, I think it is one of those songs that brings me back a little.

I think part of the problem is the band puts certain songs away for a long time for seemingly no reason. For instance, Ed sometimes says he hates Glorified G, yet they keep playing it. Then, when something isn't played for a while, people freak out about it.

I've noticed many people on both boards saying what a shitty song it was. Ganjafarmer (whoever he is, but close to the band, nonetheless) even said "it's the opinion of many close to (and in) the band that the song sucks."

Fair enough. I had not seen that. It seems to me that the fans are not shying away however (I am sure you saw the webcast). And the band appears ready to oblige, though that is yet to be seen.
Sometimes I think the best thing that can happen to a song is for the band to just not play it for an extended period of time. It increases the popularity in the song by a great deal. Examples - Alive (stopped playing after Roskilde for quite a while and it was even more popular when it was played again), Blood, Why Go, Garden on the last tour.

It seems like people either love the song or hate it.

That is the reason why I hate the song. This song just reeks of immaturity. In my opinion the lyrics for Leash could have been written by Nickelback.
If you want lyrics go listen to Dylan. Lyrics are important, but sometimes a song rocks so much (Leash) that lyrics mean nothing. Animal is much the same way.

that is a slap in the face

b/c they havent played it in so long. this is also the reason so many people hate it. the song isnt any better just b/c its rare
You are absolutely right about this, but there are certainly a number of people that percieve it as better due to the fact that it has not been played.

i dont hate leash.. i just hate the morons who want to turn pearl jam shows into the wwf
i am really glad i didnt have to deal with those signs at the shows i went to
so beacuse of the signs i hope they never play it.. its not cause i dont like the song
Speaking of signs, some dumbass had a huge sign in Chicago and when Ed sang Last Kiss behind us, I couldn't see him at all thanks to said sign. I think they even had it upside down. Lame.
