just wondering does anyone know of any other bands that do this....

I believe Phish does it for selective shows, The Who did it for a tour. The Pixies also did it for their first reunion tour a few years ago where the boot would be available for pickup at the venus right after the show.

"The Who" will be doing it on their forthcoming tour, including a nice gig at Leeds University, where they recorded the Live At Leeds album: a true gem of a live project.

you're welcome, just had to point that out in case you didn't already know
The Black Crowes did it last summer. Would be cool if they do it again this summer since the DBTs are opening and it would be awesome if they did some collaborations during the Crowes set.

I'm not sure. The company Instant Live was doing them, but I think they were only doing CDs instead of web downloads.
I got one or two of them on Oink as well as a compilation of some of the shows. Good stuff.
EDIT!
http://www.instantlive.com/home.html Looks like they'll be doing the summer tour as well. They've added a bunch of artists since the last time I looked at the page.

live recordings are starting to become a viable source of revenue for lots of bands since record sales have started to plummet in the last several years. if a band wasn't into the whole bootleg sales thing before, i imagine they will be soon.

I wish more folks would do this. I personally love live stuff. While I enjoy some AUD recordings, I'll take a multi-track recording any day of the week.

as far as metallica goes, i love them. they're #2 probably at this point behind PJ though they've both held that #1 spot for a while.
my problem with livemetallica.com is that i hate the recordings and the mixing. sounds very primitive and there is ZERO crowd noise. it doesn't sound live. it sounds lame and since metallica don't really change how they play a song too much...and don't change their setlists even remotely as much as PJ (they used to never change them on a tour, that blew)....so their boots are sort of weak. but i have a few from the st. anger tour if anyone wants a song or two to see how the quality is.

it'll also reward bands that put on a good live show, and hopefully encourage others to do the same.
