I have been highly critical of them in the past, but it's clear now that the problems came from 10c. This tour, they have done it all right - the FLAC's that fans want, the quality is great, they have fixed errors, no missing songs, and customer service responds to problems in a matter of a few hours, seemingly 24 hours a day. Having dealt with 10c for 6 years and the Secretary of State of IL's office for a month and a half (replacement vehicle title), AND being in the customer service industry myself, I am really appreciative when I get good service, such as I have with basecamp. And yes, I have told them as well.

Just how much better are FLAC files over mp3?

Is it really worth it, for what is a live recording?

I had some problems with the Boston 1 download, I sent them an email about it last night but it was late, something like 2:00 in the morning. I'm hoping for a response today.

I look at it this way - even if you don't care about the quality RIGHT NOW, you might someday, and if you get the FLAC's it'll be there.

Plus, if a better compressed format than MP3 comes out (there already is one actually, Ogg Vorbis; AAC is probably better too), you can still go FLAC>WAV>new compressed format and take advantage of it. Get the MP3's and it'll never be better than that.

Finally, even if your intent is to listen to mp3's on your iPod or whatever, you can make better MP3's yourself from the FLAC's by going FLAC>WAV>MP3, because you can get the LAME encoder and use a really high variable bit rate (VBR). PJ is using 256KB/sec MP3 which is nothing to sneeze at, but it's still inferior constant bit rate (CBR).

Yikes I just realized they may not address my problem until after the long weekend. Oh well.

I'll add to this thread.

I downloaded the Camden 1 flac last night, and for whatever reason, the opener (wasted reprise) didn't download. I sent them an e-mail explaining the situation. This was at like 2:00 in the morning. I went to sleep shortyl after, woke up this morning, got an e-mail from them saying they added the song to my account.

Kudos.

They do a nice job, I think.

Back when everyone was bitching about the problems with Toronto 2 I remember posting that, though the issues they had were annoying, I was impressed how well they were working through it considering. A few weeks later, they've been pretty much error free and their customer service is top notch.

Plus, who else is even trying to do this for their fans?

I wouldn't exactly say they're doing it for the fans. I would say their doing it for a profit. Regardless, I agree that they have been performing top-notch recently.

I'm sure they enjoy the profit from it and I'm sure they only got the go-ahead to start it all in 2000 because there was the potential to make money, but I doubt that the first idea came from the band members sitting around and deciding they could make a lot more money if they did official bootlegs. I'd imagine they thought it would be a cool thing to offer and then looked into whether there was a way to do it that would be profitable.
